Grand Narrative 2026 – Introducing Ferrum’s Wake

Since its 2022 debut, the Grand Narrative has immersed players in an engaging spectacle unlike any other. This year, hundreds of hobbyists will meet in Atlanta once again for a new story-driven campaign, and today it’s time to unveil where they’ll be deploying their troops – the desolate forge world of Ferrum’s Wake.

At the Edge of the Maelstrom

The forge world of Ferrum’s Wake is free. Or so say its new lords.

At the edge of the Maelstrom, the forge world heaves in the throes of its unmooring. Freedom stalks its surface with a trail of excess and decay. From the depths of the void, vengeance and retribution catch wind of a wayward world and a lost son. In the heart of the Imperium, an empty ledger is finally noticed. And the denizens of Ferrum’s Wake are soon to learn that the galaxy abhors an untethered soul.

Ferrum’s Wake

Ferrum’s Wake itself is a world of extremes. Its poles are wintry machine-wastes of cracked ferrocrete, frozen promethium canals, and half-buried bastion lines where the living march beneath polluted auroras. Its equatorial belts are endless manufactoria, heat-blurred and deafening, where corrupted engines now labour in place of the Omnissiah’s perfection.

Its surface contains dense urban sprawls where tower-hives have been sheared open by orbital fire; desert wastes of red-black ash where armoured columns vanish into electrostatic storms; ruined transit continents where rival armies fight over bridges wide enough to host cities; and rare lethal jungles erupted from the shattered laboratory-domes of Magi-Biologis. Beneath them lie catacombs, underhives, sump-cities, half-sentient rail vaults, gang kingdoms, sealed data-tombs, and old Mechanicus arteries never entered by any living thing twice.

Now, the world has ceased to be governed in any singular sense. Loyalist holdouts survive while rebel militias claim to defend their new-found freedom. Chaos cults bloom in the dark where certainty has failed, and across the breadth and depth of a breaking world, the cost of freedom grows ever higher. As anarchy reigns ascendant, so too does the crimson light of the Maelstrom, growing rapidly closer to the free people of Ferrum’s Wake.
