The Warhammer Open Series events are massive fun, and even if you’re not playing in a tournament there’s loads to do – like learning to paint from Golden Demon maestros.
Last weekend’s Warhammer Open in Newport, Wales, featured seminars by multi-award winning instructors Albert Moretó Font and Katarzyna Górska, and both will be back at the upcoming Warhammer Open in Krakow. We caught up with them about what attendees can expect from their painting classes.

Warhammer Community: What can students look forward to learning in your classes?
Albert Moretó Font: As a Golden Demon veteran, my classes will focus on practical demonstrations, clear explanations, and methods students can immediately apply to improve their approach to colour, light, texture, and more. Whether you’re an experienced painter or looking to push your skills further, you’ll leave with new tools and confidence.
Katarzyna Górska: In my classes, I want students to go beyond simply learning techniques – I want them to understand why we make certain artistic choices. Painting miniatures is not only about smooth blends or clean details; it is about storytelling, composition, atmosphere, and emotion.
Students can expect practical guidance on colour theory, contrast, texture, and creating focal points that make a miniature truly stand out. I also focus heavily on composition and visual narrative – how every detail, from lighting to basing, can strengthen the story of the piece. They should take my class if they want to develop not just as painters, but as artists. My goal is to help each student find their own artistic voice and push beyond their comfort zone.

WarCom: Why are you excited to be teaching about painting Warhammer miniatures?
Katarzyna: Warhammer has such a rich and iconic universe—it offers endless opportunities for creativity. Whether it’s grimdark armour, dramatic monsters, or atmospheric battle scenes, the range of artistic expression is huge. What excites me most is helping painters see Warhammer miniatures as more than gaming pieces. They can become powerful display pieces, emotional storytelling tools, and true works of art.
I also love the passion of the Warhammer community. People bring so much enthusiasm, curiosity, and dedication, and teaching in that environment is incredibly inspiring.
Albert: I’m excited to teach Warhammer miniature painting because it’s a chance to share the techniques and thought process I’ve developed over years of painting while helping others discover their own style.
People often reach out online with questions, but nothing compares to demonstrating techniques in person and seeing those ideas click!

WarCom: What else are you looking forward to doing at the Warhammer Open?
Albert: I’m excited to meet Warhammer enthusiasts from around the world, exchanging ideas with fellow artists, seeing epic battles with beautifully painted armies, and above all, enjoying the unique atmosphere that brings the Warhammer community together.
Katarzyna: I’m really looking forward to meeting the community—seeing familiar faces, meeting new people, and sharing ideas with others who are passionate about the hobby. Events like the Warhammer Open are special because they bring together painters, hobbyists, gamers, and creators from all over.
I’m especially excited to see the Hobby Challenge entries, because I love discovering new ideas and possibilities in display painting. It’s always inspiring to see how creative people can be, and how that creativity pushes the whole community forward—something we can clearly see reflected in the increasingly high-level and imaginative Golden Demon entries. And of course, I’m looking forward to great conversations, new friendships, and simply enjoying the incredible creative energy of the event.
Thanks guys! We still have a raft of international Warhammer Open events coming up this year in Europe and the United States. Albert and Katarzyna will be teaching at the Warhammer Open in Krakow, as well as Dan Ozborne, Roman Lappat, Natalia Oracz and Angelo Di Chello.
