Elegant Brutes

Emperor’s Children Terminators are already elegant yet brutal. Clad in debased suits of armour, they have the raw power to bludgeon their way through swarms of lesser foes. Now you can make them even faster when they charge, as they’re Eager to Kill.

This is a great way to make your charge more likely to succeed when you’ve arrived via Deep Strike or are piling out of your Land Raider. You can also make up to three units of Terminators even deadlier as you grant them the boon of Sustained Hits thanks to the Frenzied Ferocity enhancement.

But what happens when you’ve sliced your way through your enemies but left yourself out of position? Take a Warp Plunge to leave the battlefield and prepare to Deep Strike all over again.

Frenzied Host

The heart of most Emperor’s Children warbands is the units of Tormentors and Infractors. With advance and fall-back moves, they can cover more of the tabletop – and their weapons will get +1 S when they do, opening up a wealth of tactical options.

There’s no-one better to lead your Battleline units than a Lord Exultant – who doesn’t like getting the Lethal Hits, Infiltrators, AND Scouts 6” abilities from their boss? What if he also gave your ranged weapons +1 AP? Yes, please! The Tormentors, with their elaborately ornamented boltguns, will be big fans of the Howling Plate enhancement.

When your Emperor’s Children are really keen to hold on to an objective, they can be overcome by a Possessive Mania, which sees enemy attacks harmlessly glance off your battleplate. While your foe flounders helplessly, your Infractors mercilessly slice them up with their Excessive Assault ability.

Spectacle of Slaughter

Finally, the third new detachment is built around the Flawless Blades. It takes quite a lot of ego to refer to yourself as ‘flawless’, but these degenerate warriors can walk the walk as well as talk the talk. The supreme stimm-saturated swordsmen are Entitled to Victory, giving them the Fights First ability, which enables them to cut their way through enemy warriors before they even know what hit them.

Fighting first would be an excellent opportunity for the Flawless Blades to call forth their Daemonic Patrons and stack up the Critical Wounds. You can also make up to three units even faster with the Eager Patrons upgrade.

But what happens when you’ve run across the battlefield at high speed, ready to revel in the Fights First ability, but your enemy has sensibly screened their key units with some targets that are beneath the attention of your Flawless Blades? With the Single-minded Strike stratagem, you can simply charge right through.

Each of these detachments costs 1 Detachment Point, meaning you could combine them all together in a Strike Force-sized game or use them alongside existing detachments from the Codex. Spectacle of Slaughter or Elegant Brutes would work alongside Rapid Evisceration as you use your daemonically tainted vehicles to ferry your pre-eminent killers to the front line.

And with that, the Emperor’s Children depart, leaving a garish devastation in their wake and the smell of perfume in the air. Following them are the daemon-hunting Grey Knights, who will be the stars of our Faction Focus tomorrow.
