We’d already had one incredible trailer for the new edition, bringing to life the battle between the Orks and Space Marines from the Armageddon boxed set. This new cinematic ups the scale considerably, featuring a far wider spread of factions and locations from across the 41st Millennium.

Repeat viewing is advised, as there are loads of easter eggs and cool details liberally sprinkled throughout. Here were a few bits we spotted:

The exact health and fate of the Emperor by the 41st Millennium is both vague and hotly debated. Is he alive? A god? Or just a rotting corpse on a throne acting as the bulb for a glorified psychic lighthouse? The trailer artfully skirts this problem by showing all of these possibilities. You’ll just have to decide for yourself.

The vision of a vast Imperial battleship entering the Warp has to be one of the most spectacular shots in the trailer. It’s always cool just to see how MASSIVE these huge ships really are.

Did you spot the Aeldari shot of the Dire Avenger in a Craftworld that mirrored the classic 2nd edition artwork from Codex: Eldar?

Seeing Kastelan Robots striding forward, blasting photonic bolts at Necrons while crushing Scarabs underfoot is undeniably cool.

The vision of a Warlord Titan from the viewpoint of a humble Guardsman, as it strides easily over the defence lines and starts blasting away at some distant foe, really hammers home the scale of battles in the far future.

Witnessing the Tyranids not just in battle, but actually consuming a world, demonstrates the full horror of that particular alien threat. We especially liked the ’gaunts, who, job done and enemies defeated, hopped into the digestion pool themselves.

And of course, the poor human whom we saw first as a pilgrim, then a Guardsman, and finally as a corpse. Poor guy. That is a pretty typical fate for a mortal human in Warhammer 40,000 – so if you ever thought “I wonder who I’d be if I was transported to the Dark Millennium?” – odds are it’s that guy, if you’re lucky…
