The Big Autumn Preview

Dire times have drawn the vaunted Adeptus Custodes into the fight, and now their elite Aquilon Terminators deploy alongside the next new Codex for Warhammer 40,000.

The warriors chosen to wear advanced suits of Aquilon Terminator armour are the true cream of the crop, who enter battle clad in some of the rarest and most durable plate the Imperium has ever seen. These ancient relics are usually outfitted for combat with one of two loadouts – either with lastrum storm bolters and swift Solarite power talons, or adrathic combi-destructors and devastating Solarite power gauntlets.

Like Allarus Terminators, these veteran warriors are immensely durable and can wipe out units many times their size. Their miniatures are accordingly covered in fine ornamental details, making each Terminator a display-worthy piece that together look awesome arrayed together on the battlefield.

The new Aquilon Terminators can be used in both the Age of Darkness and the 41st Millennium. Their Warhammer: The Horus Heresy rules can be found in the Liber Custodes: The Forces of the Emperor Army Book while their Warhammer 40,000 rules will be in the new Codex: Adeptus Custodes. This book follows the pattern of the previous Orks and Space Marines Codexes, with the standard softback release packing tons of background lore, hobby guides, and army rules together in a decorative slipcase.

This Codex also marks an epochal change for the Adeptus Custodes as a faction, as their datasheets are fundamentally rescaled to reflect the near-mythical demigod heroes we know and love from the lore. Even the most ‘basic’ Custodian fights at a power level beyond most Space Marine heroes, with points levels and squad sizes adjusted to make them the true most elite army in the game.*

The new Codex will be accompanied by a Combat Patrol – the perfect place to enter this new era of Imperial domination, packed with powerful warriors and advanced technology.

A Shield Captain leads a potent strike force of six Sentinel Guard and three Venatari, backed up by a towering Contemptor-Achillus Dreadnought. If you’re not worried about using this box in games of Combat Patrol, you can also build the three squads in alternate configurations, making this one of the most flexible boxes around.

Like other new Codexes in the 11th edition, you’ll also be able to pick up a faction Command Pack containing reference cards and useful tokens – invaluable for keeping your attention on the game while bolt rounds and blades fly.

This new Codex coincides with a range of newer Custodian kits getting their standalone releases, which can all be used in both Warhammer 40,000 AND Warhammer: The Horus Heresy.

From a Warhammer 40,000 perspective, this is one of the largest expansions of the Adeptus Custodes range since the faction first launched, and gives budding Captain-Generals a vast well of reinforcements to draw from. We hope you’ve stocked up on Retributor Armour paint.
