We’ve talked a lot about the rules and detachments inside the new Codex: Orks, but not much about the book itself. Today, we’re showing you what new Codexes look like, and what else you can find inside.

The first thing you’ll notice is that the book is a softback, and enclosed in a slipcase much like the 500 Worlds campaign books and other recent releases.
Combined with their smaller dimensions,* this makes the Codexes much more portable while still giving you the option of a nice rigid display piece for your bookshelf. Plus, if you’re a serious collector who can’t do without a hardback copy, the aptly-named Collector’s Edition version has you covered.
Despite its smaller size, it manages to pack in even more Orky goodness.

One of the most beloved features of older Codexes – a comprehensive bestiary of all the units you can collect and use – returns with a bang, ballooning the lore section in Codex: Orks from about 40 pages in 2024 to nearly 100 in 2026. Witness the pitiable life of the humble Gretchin, learn what the difference is between a Hunta Rig and a Kill Rig,** and read all about the rise to power of the one and only Ghazghkull Thraka.***

Next up is a new part of the Codex – a handy collector’s guide that gives new players a run-down of six key detachments with armies themed around them. It’s a great way to find new ideas for an army, and with 15 detachments to play with – as we mentioned earlier this week – there are a huge variety of different builds you could manage.
One of the most important parts is the little code that you get in the back. Not only does it unlock the Orks rules on the Warhammer 40,000 app, it will also give you access to additional content throughout the life of the edition. New rules, lore excerpts, and new detachments are only a few of the things you’ll see in regular updates.
Speaking of the Warhammer 40,000 app, when Codex: Orks comes out, your Orks Legends rules will be added to it for the first time. This means your fan-favourite classic units and your new ones will all be in the same place for a smoother gaming experience.

Codex: Orks is available to pre-order from Saturday and is your guide to declaring the biggest Waaagh! the galaxy has ever seen. Get ready by learning all about the new Boyz kit and seeing how the Ork army rules are going to work.
* The new books measure 180mm by 250mm compared to the 220mm by 285mm of last edition’s Codexes.
** If you said one hunts and one kills, you just might be a Beast Snagga.
