The first official Warhammer 40,000 event of the new edition is just a week away. If you’re one of the 500+ Grand Tournament or 100+ Narrative Warhammer 40,000 players joining us in Tacoma, Washington from next Friday, there are a few key things you should know.
Firstly, we’ve just released an event FAQ that clarifies how we’ll be ruling on a few ambiguous rules points at the event. It also adds and removes a few erroneously omitted or included keywords, so units play as you would expect them to.
The FAQ also addresses the most asked rules question we’ve received over the last few days, which was about healing Characters back into units. There is a small change here to how Characters that can be resurrected after death work. Effectively, they don’t rejoin their bodyguard unit, and instead become their own unit of one model. This takes the edge off a couple of emerging problematic units.
This FAQ, while worked on in consultation with the Warhammer Studio, is NOT the promised 1-month rules update for the new edition of Warhammer 40,000. That is still expected in about two weeks. The document released today is “official” only within the bounds of the Tacoma Open event. However, If you are playing your own games at home or running an event in the next two weeks – and we know lots of you are – feel free to use these rulings.
The second thing you should know about the Tacoma Open is that we can confirm it will be the first event in the world to use the new Ready Painted Terrain. All 250+ Warhammer 40,000 tables for the Grand Tournament, and many for the Narrative event, will be kitted out with a glorious new Armageddon-themed battlefield.

The Warhammer 40,000 event at the Tacoma Open is expected to be the largest 11th edition Warhammer 40,000 event to date.
If you’re going, have fun and good luck!
If you're not going to be in Tacoma, you'll be able to watch along with all the action and expert commentary on the Warhammer Twitch channel.
