Mix and match your kits with the new MkIV Space Marines

We’ve seen just how customisable the MkII, MkIII, and MkVI Space Marines kits for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy are. Well, the new MkIV miniatures can also be mixed and matched with a wide variety of upgrade sets – take a look.

Veteran Tactical Squad

Veteran Legionaries can pick from a wide variety of wargear, and are especially adept with powerful ranged weapons due to their enhanced Ballistic Skill over regular Tactical Legionaries. They’re one of the only ways you can get a whole squad of disintegrator weapons, ideal for erasing your enemies from existence.

Tactical Support Squad

Six different weapon options make Tactical Support Squads extremely flexible, and you can get them in the Special Weapons Upgrade Set. Here they’re pictured with plasma guns for punching holes in their fellow Astartes, but the kit works just as well with meltaguns, volkite chargers, rotor cannons, and more.

Praetorian Command Squad

Command Squads are formed from the very best of a Legion’s warriors, and since ‘Maximus’ pattern armour was the most advanced equipment of its kind, it makes perfect sense for the Praetor’s bodyguards to have first access rights. Plus, it looks great with the fancy combat shields you get.

Heavy Support Squad

A wide range of heavy weapons are available for use with the new MkIV Space Marines, from heavy bolters and missile launchers to plasma cannons, heavy flamers, and multi-meltas. These all require their own arms for posing purposes, so you’ll want to use the included vambrace parts from the MkIV Tactical Squad set to make the arms fit with the rest of your advanced cadres.

Despoiler Squad

Often seen in the ranks of the Sons of Horus, who had a particular fondness for MkIV armour,* Despoiler Squads are easy to make with the addition of a Melee Weapons Upgrade Kit. Their chest not being covered by a gun in their hands is an added bonus, as you can see the distinctive Maximus breastplate in all its glory.

Rapier Battery

Here’s a leftfield option – the crew from a Rapier Battery. Outfitting your gunners is as easy as shifting the arms and backpacks over from the original crew, and since the originals wore armour that isn’t a million miles away from MkIV to begin with, they look the part straight away.

Here’s a quick compatibility chart to show off which upgrade kits work with which units:

The new Maximus Battle Group box goes up for pre-order this weekend, and with 20 new Tactical Legionaries and 10 Assault Legionaries to play around with, you’ll be coming up with some interesting combinations in no time. Make sure to show us what you make!
