Last week in our ongoing series examining the history of the Horus Heresy through excerpts from the Black Books, we uncovered the fate of the isolated Forge World known as Xana. Today, we’re opening the vaults of another, even more remote outpost – the enclave of Zhao-Arkhad.

Zhao-Arkhad would have been an unremarkable footnote from the fringes of the Great Crusade if not for its indelible link to the Thousand Sons Legion, who returned the world to Imperial compliance. The tumultuous history of the world did nothing for its relationship with the wider Imperium, so when the Warmaster’s rebellion sent a shockwave across the galaxy, many forge fanes of the Mechanicum gladly followed the sons of Magnus the Red.
Today’s extract comes from Horus Heresy Book Seven: Inferno, first published in 2016, which dealt with the vicious Burning of Prospero and the many forces involved in that tragic campaign. It should come as no surprise that Zhao-Arkhad took part, given their friendship with the Thousand Sons, and their automata proved invaluable.
Add a suitably Thousand Sons-themed automata to your army in the form of a Castellax-Achea. Then, come back next week as we review the galaxy’s state during the fifth year of Horus’ rebellion, and see where the road to the Siege of Terra truly lies amidst the many apocalyptic battles and endless slaughter.
