The incredible C’tan Shard of the Nightbringer as imagined by community painters

The C’tan were once some of the most terrifying forces in the galaxy, with powers that could twist and warp reality at a whim. They offered the “gift” of biotransference to the Necrontyr, cursing them to become soulless machines known as Necrons. Like any good empire spurned by devious deities, the Necrons dutifully rebelled against these godlike beings. Now they use shards of them as devastating weapons in their ceaseless wars. Isn’t it funny how things work out?

The new C’tan Shard of the Nightbringer cuts an exceptionally morbid figure, a true spectre of death cast in an ever-shifting necrodermis. In their benevolence, the Necrons have scattered a few of these shards to the winds for some of our community painters to tackle. Here are the results. So inspired were the painters that we ended up with far too many shards to share in the article, so keep an eye on our social channels for more – and thank you to everyone who took part.

With its distended jaw constantly agape, the Nightbringer is doing a great job of mirroring our own expressions as we check out the calibre of painting on show in the submissions. Sion Scannell, Angelo Di Chello, Spencer Stone, and Kieran Wilson make up our first quartet of talented painters.

Able to control its constantly shifting appearance, the C’tan Shard of the Nightbringer still prefers to cut about in a guise evoking the image of death that instilled hundreds of civilizations with a fear of men in hooded robes. Still, why not jazz that classic look up with a dose of colour, like Jennie Ruskin, Blake Law, Maxime Le Moigne, and Jessica Smart have?

Our final six Nightbringers show that there’s nothing wrong with just playing the classics, as Kenny Wildman, Ryan Allen, Alison Kersley, Nicholas Broussard, Rob Wolters, and Vincenzo Celeste all opt for the cool blues and purples of the Nightbringer contrasted with the luminous green energy synonymous with the Necrons.

This absolutely stunning miniature is available for pre-order on Saturday. Don’t forget to share your own versions with us in a few weeks on the official Warhammer Instagram page.
