The new episode of the Warhammer 40,000 animation Aeronautica Imperialis is now available to watch over on Warhammer TV. Here’s your pre-flight trailer:
Across this series, we’re getting an unparalleled view into two very different air forces of the 41st Millennium. The planes in the sky are just part of that. Let’s take a look at what this animated series has shown of their bases.
The Imperial Navy
On this frozen world, the Aeronautica Imperialis themselves are based at a rugged airstrip, crudely wedged into the side of a mountain. Despite the atrocious casualty rate of the pilots, the base always seems to have plenty of craft, fueled and ready to join the fight.
In this week’s episode, we saw it in the wake of an enemy attack, with many of its stationed Thunderbolts smouldering wrecks from the night’s raid.*

Of course, no Imperial outpost anywhere in the galaxy is complete without a shrine to the God-Emperor. Well-used by the look of it. When the line between life and death is as thin as a monomolecular shuriken, prayer looks like quite an appealing option.

The base is positioned near an imperial mining facility, which we get a good look at this week. We particularly enjoyed trying to spot all the items of Warhammer 40,000 battlefield scenery pieces in their native habitat. The facility looks busy – Tech-Priests, servitors, and haulers moving minerals and machinery around for whatever purpose the Adeptus Mechanicus has decided suits the Omnissiah’s will.

The Aeldari
In contrast, the base of the Aeldari is eerily quiet – they are a dying race, after all, and even if these locations were once bustling, that time has long passed. We see Idraneth, the Nightwing interceptor pilot, alone in his personal shrine. Beyond, we have the impression of Aeldari buildings, but few other living souls.

Aeronautica Imperialis episodes one and two are available to watch now on Warhammer TV for Warhammer+ subscribers. The third and final episode will land on 26 June.
* Don't worry, we’re sure a new delivery of planes/pilots is inbound.
