This week on Warhammer TV is a big one for Orks fans, as Ghazghkull Thraka and his boys unleash their new Codex on a powerful Necron army packed with C’tan. Who will come out on top?
Live on Thursday: Battle Report – Orks vs Necrons
Just last week we showed off the Beast of Armageddon’s impressive new datasheet, and now it’s time to see it in action. A Necrons warhost under Illuminor Szeras has emerged with two powerful C’tan Shards and a legion of deadly constructs at their command, so it’ll take an equally mighty assemblage of Orks champions to take them down.

Enter Nazdreg, Snikrot, a Warboss, and three whole Big Mek Dakkarigs. The baddest Bad Moon is a vicious killer almost on par with Ghazghkull himself, and both of them – along with the Warboss – get the chance to fight one last time if the Necrons are lucky enough to destroy them, thanks to the Brute Bosses detachment chosen for this game.

The Big Mek Dakkarigs lead a horde of cantankerous Killa Kans supported by the Dread Mob detachment, which returns with some dangerous new abilities for those machines of a walking persuasion. Rather than handing out keywords you can often find elsewhere, Try Dat Button! now boosts weapon stats directly, and you can even get two of its boons at the same time for a 100% acceptable amount of risk.

DETACHMENT RULES
Try Dat Button!
Inviting Mek-wired buttons offer varied and erratic lethality.
In your Shooting phase or the Fight phase, when a friendly ORKS WALKER unit (excluding TITANIC units) is selected to attack, you can use this ability. If you do, roll either one D6 or two D6 (keep re-rolling duplicate results). This unit’s attacks have the relevant rule(s):
D6 | RESULT |
1-2 | +1 A |
3-4 | +2 S |
5-6 | +1 AP |
If you rolled two D6, when this unit has attacked, this unit makes one hazard roll.
What self-respecting Orks player wouldn’t want to roll two dice?
Whatever happens, there’ll be heaps of green and silver corpses littering the battlefield before the day is done.
We’re still a couple of days away from Codex: Orks going on pre-order, so not only is this the first time you’ll see it on Battle Report, it’s the first time you’ll see it in action anywhere! If you want to get a feel for what an Ork army looks like in the new Codex, we’ve got both army lists to share with you.
Detachments: Green Tide, Dread Mob, Brute Bosses
| Detachments: Awakened Dynasty

We also grabbed a quick chat with Necrons Overlord Josh before he rushed off to play the game to see if he had any plans to defeat the new Orks.
WarCom: How much are you looking forward to facing the new Orks?
Josh: I'm really looking forward to it, as you might expect from one of your gaming presenters I am well up for a scrap, I haven't faced the Orks since I filmed the launch game of the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 and I took them on with Space Marines in a Priority Assets vs Purge the Foe Matchup. This time I'm going esoteric. I've delved into the vaults of the Necrons to conjure up a list of stirring tomb constructs, legions of warriors and shards of shackled star gods! It's going to be Take and Hold for the Necrons vs Purge the Foe, because Orks never change!

WarCom: Ghazghkull and Nazdreg are a fearsome one-two punch – how are you planning on dealing with such heavy hitters?
Josh: Facing both of these epic heroes is going to be a challenge – have you seen Ghazghkull's new datasheet? Nazdreg is no slouch either, being the perfect leader to bring a squad of Meganobz to the fray. My plan is to try to control the tempo of the game. Orks are devastating on the attack but vulnerable on the counterattack, so I'm hoping that I can control the rate of engagement so that I'm tackling these titans on my terms, not being swallowed up in a giant Waaagh!.

WarCom: You’ve got your own heavy hitters in the form of two C’tan Shards – do you have a favourite, and what are your plans for these star god fragments?
Josh: I do have a favourite, I'm an old school hobbyist! I've been into Warhammer since, well... the last time that we had Orks and Space Marines in the Assault on Black Reach back in two thousand and REDACTED. The Nightbringer was the archetypal boogeyman back in those days, fleshed out with novels like... well, Nightbringer. So it's always had this esoteric and eldritch vibe that entices me. Compels me, even. The Nightbringer has the opportunity to dish out a ton of Devastating Wounds with its scythe and a bunch of Mortal Damage with its abilities, so getting stuck in to the middle of an army that loves getting stuck in like the Orks should have this C'tan Shard well in its element.
WarCom: While everyone is looking at the big, killy units, those Gretchin might go unnoticed, and they have objective secured now! What are you going to do about the Grots?
Josh: The Gretchin are of no concern to the Overlords of the Dynasty! Mere wretches to stand on objectives and secure them with their bits of scrap, filth and half-chewed ammo casings. I will simply ignore them! They are beneath the Necrons! I'm sure they won't pose a threat at all... unless they stand in the way, or block me from a key objective, deny me a secondary.... or turn the tide of battle? Guess we'll have to find out won't we?
Will the Gretchin manage to trip up a C’tan Shard? Who will win in a shootout between Big Mek Dakkarigs and Canoptek Doomstalkers? Find out when Battle Report goes live on Thursday.
Live Today: Scribes and Scriveners – Marc Collins

Black Library favourite Marc Collins, author of Eidolon: The Auric Hammer and the newly announced Claws of the Maelstrom, sits down with Scribes and Scriveners presenter Alex to chat about his latest works and the road he took to becoming a Warhammer storyteller. It’s a great insight into the working process of a Black Library author, and comes with some genuinely useful advice for any aspiring wordsmiths.
Live Tomorrow: Armies of Renown – Mentors Chapter

Finally, tomorrow’s episode of Armies of Renown gathers the extensive Mentors Chapter* collection of army and display painter James for a nostalgic side-by-side between classic and modern Space Marines.
