Absolutely everyone is getting into the Grotmas spirit, and that includes the legions of community painters who strut their stuff whenever we have something fun and cool to show off. Today we’re looking at how they got on with Da Red Gobbo’s Tinboy – this year’s eclectic miniature featuring the anarchic grot – and, as always, the standard is astonishing.
First up are the Tinboys that hewed fairly close to the original vision, adorned in the red or russet coat of a Vostroyan Firstborn Guardsman. A special shoutout goes to Marko from Craftworld Studio, who went as far as painting the soft blues of open moonlight to really make his work look like it’s marching on a cold winter’s night.
Plenty of painters took a more outfield approach and dressed their mechanoids up in alternative colours, with Jennie going so far as to leave bits of its armour off so it has a more rustic, unfinished appearance.
Hold on a minute, I don’t think that last one is a Tinboy at all… although the gingerbread man gut-plate is so good, we’re leaving it in. You win this time, Darcy.
Finally, a handful of contributors decided to create full-on dioramas for their Tinboys, with Christine putting Da Red Gobbo into an awkward doppelganger situation, while Sam’s slides across a frozen pond and Lukas sends his on a merry march through the midst of an Orky snowball fight.

We lied, those weren’t the last ones – Rob from Starburst magazine fully converted his miniature into a rusted chariot for some gleeful Nurglings.

We’re not sure Da Red Gobbo would approve of his creation being used in such a way, but he’s also fictional, so we think Rob’s in the clear. If you haven’t painted your own Tinboy yet, we hope these masterpieces inspire you, and if you have, we want to see! Show us on the Warhammer 40,000 Facebook page. We’ll be waiting.
