Sunday Preview – Yarrick returns to Armageddon

The war for Armageddon intensifies as the Speedwaaagh! of Wazdakka Gutsmek thunders into an unprepared Imperial defence, and only the returned Commissar Yarrick can forestall certain doom.

Commissar Yarrick

We heard he’s back, we saw how he cheated death, and now Commissar Sebastian Yarrick is on Armageddon with one goal in mind – defeat Ghazghkull Thraka once and for all. He rejoins the battlefield with a powerful suite of abilities and his signature Ork-snipping power klaw, ready to lead the Astra Militarum from the front lines and command troops just as effectively as he fights enemy champions.

Wazdakka Gutsmek

Wazdakka Gutsmek is nothing short of the greatest Ork Speed Freek alive, tearing across the galaxy atop his heavily customised warbike Big Revva and demolishing swathes of enemy troops as he roars past at rocket speed. This tricked-out Bikeboss is phenomenally fast and hits like a battlewagon, with loads of rules that boost his combat power and make it easy to see why Ghazghkull allowed him the privilege of leading the Ork vanguard. He even makes Ork Warbikers Battleline, so your Speedwaaagh! can grow even bigger.

Commissar Graves

The hardline, traditionalist Commissar Thenia Graves is a formidable leader and fiery disciplinarian, who inspires as much fear in her troops as the enemy does – if not more. For maximum presence in the chaos of battle, she rides to war in a heavily customised Centaur RSV called Vigilance, swinging from the fighting deck with her power sword and power fist combo while her obedient entourage blasts away at nearby enemies.

This box also includes a second Commissar Graves miniature that depicts her on foot, in case the mission at hand requires a little more subtlety than driving up and shooting everyone from her bombastic ride.

Intranzia Fraye, Dogmata Superior

One of the chief officers of the Adepta Sororitas’ presence on Armageddon, Intranzia Fraye carries the weight of her order as she lumbers into combat atop her majestic walking war engine, the Throne of Blame. Providing mobile fire support for the rest of her army, she is only too happy to smite the enemies of the God-Emperor from her elevated position. The famously intolerant Dogmata Superior fearlessly leads her contingent of Battle Sisters while keeping a watchful eye on their performance – ready to pronounce judgment on their failures, if necessary.

Inquisitor Kroyle

The Ordo Xenos has many agents in and around the wider Armageddon System, but none are quite as ostentatious, yet effective, as Inquisitor Kroyle. A staunch proponent of using the opposition’s weapons against them, Kroyle hunts enemy champions and commanders with his esoteric Jindarii tox-cycler, which specialises in taking out alien monsters, while his horrifying, multi-legged Garralisk steed means he always has a stable position from which to fire.

Armageddon Battalion: Astra Militarum

Claim armoured superiority over the battlefield with a mechanised force perfect for combat on the irradiated sands of Armageddon. Battalion: Astra Militarum is the first place you’ll be able to get your hands on the new Hippogriff AFV and Centaur RSV vehicles. Each Hippogriff can be armed with a vigilator cannon, chiron gatling cannon, melta cannon, or heavy lascannon to take on a wide variety of targets. The box also includes a mighty Rogal Dorn battle tank and 10 Cadian Shock Troops to ride in the back of the Centaur.

This is a great start for the new Armoured Infantry Detachment, which can be found in the Armageddon: The Return of Yarrick expansion. This boxed set is only available while stocks last.

Armageddon Battalion: Orks

Follow Wazdakka into the Speedwaaagh! with a roaring selection of mobile Orks, who are some of the only warriors able to keep up with the Bikeboss’ charge. This boxed set includes six ramshackle Deffkoptas loaded with crude but effective weapons, a Rukkatrukk Squigbuggy lobbing explosive creatures out of its heavy squig launcher, and a Deffkilla Wartrike that carries a speed-loving Warboss into the scrap at top speed.

There is a new Speedwaaagh! Detachment in the Armageddon: The Return of Yarrick expansion, which opens up new ways to unleash these rapid warriors. This boxed set is only available while stocks last.

Armageddon Battalion: Deathwatch

Who better to take on all of the Orks on Armageddon than the alien-hunting specialists of the Deathwatch? This boxed set contains 10 Deathwatch Veterans, each of whom has a selection of weapons and equipment to take on the very worst that xenos can throw at them. They swoop into battle in the hold of a stealthy Corvus Blackstar that can swap its assault cannons for lascannons and its stormstrike missile launchers with a pair of Blackstar rocket launchers.

Don’t forget, you can download the Warhammer 40,000 rules for the Deathwatch for free from the Warhammer Community website. This boxed set is only available while stocks last.

Armageddon Battalion: Adepta Sororitas

Follow Intranzia Fraye into battle with a powerful mix of elites, newcomers and wrong-doers. A Palatine and three Paragon Warsuits make up the hard core of this congregation, joined by a squad of 10 young Novitiates and nine Repentia overseen by a stern Repentia Superior.

This is a great way to start a new Adepta Sororitas army, or to easily add to an existing collection, and, as with all of the Armageddon Battalions, you’ll save money compared to buying the kits individually. The Armageddon Battalion: Adepta Sororitas boxed set is only available while stocks last.

Armageddon: The Return of Yarrick

The legendary Commissar rejoins the fight for the long-suffering planet in Armageddon: The Return of Yarrick – the next expansion for Warhammer 40,000. This set contains a lore book packed with background info on the continuing war for Armageddon, including Yarrick’s return to the front lines and the audacious invasion of Wazdakka Gutsmek’s vanguard.

You also get the Armoured Gauntlet book containing rules for fielding brutal vehicle-heavy battles – including the ability to upgrade Ace units and track their glorious victories – as well as a book of six new Detachments for the Astra Militarum, Orks and Space Marines.

The Armageddon: The Return of Yarrick set will be available in both its regular edition and a slick collector’s edition with unique slipcase and book designs, gold foil details and gilt page edges. Both versions will be available only while stocks last.

You can get a look at some of the lore from the book this week if you're subscribed to the Warhammer newsletter.

Commissar Yarrick Dice

Decide the fate of Armageddon with a set of 16 regal black dice cast in swirled plastic with bright gold pips and a skull emblem reminiscent of the very not-dead Commissar Yarrick on the six face. They even have the Bale Eye and everything.

Ghazghkull Thraka Dice

Orks don’t care for shiny gold, and this set of 16 Ghazghkull Thraka-themed dice makes a Goff-style statement with bright white pips on a swirled black plastic base, only allowing a splash of red on the intimidating sigil of Ghazghkull that sits on the six face.

Both the Yarrick and Ghazghkull dice sets are only available while stocks last.

Da Freebooterz Code (Special Edition)

Skeeg Horntoof is an ork with big dreams: the biggest hat, the most dakka and the ambition to become the greatest freebooter the galaxy has ever seen. As kaptin of Gork’s Revenge, he is guided by Da Freebooterz Code – a set of rules so outrageous they just might work. With a krew of misfits, meks and mutineers, he sets out on a quest for loot and glory.

This time, though, Horntoof may have bitten off more than he can chew – the kaptin has instructed his boyz to plunder the hunting grounds of the legendary rogue trader Lord Captain Antoinette von Hume. Deadly, resourceful and merciless, the pirate queen of the Halo Stars has been pillaging her way across the void for decades, and an upstart freebooter with a big hat isn’t about to get in her way.

Da Freebooterz Code is the latest Black Library novel by Justin Woolley, author of Catachan Devil. This striking Special Edition features an embossed cover, printed page edges and a yellow and brown checkerboard-pattern page marker ribbon, plus the short story Horntoof – which tells of the kaptin’s reluctant rise to power.

This Special Edition of the novel is available strictly while stocks last.

Da Freebooterz Code

The novel is also available for pre-order in its regular hardback edition next week, while the eBook and audiobook versions will be available on the Black Library App from 9 May 2026.

World Ablaze: A Warhammer 40,000 Anthology

In a galaxy riven by endless conflict, perhaps no other planet has endured such relentless slaughter as Armageddon. Following the example of the infamous Ghazghkull Thraka, vast hordes of orks are drawn to the smog-choked hive world like moths to a flame, in search of the battle to end all battles. The relentless advance of humanity’s oldest foe is a storm unending, and the Astra Militarum must hold against it.

But mere humans are not sufficient to halt the green tide. Space Marines of the Ultramarines, Black Templars, Blood Angels, Space Wolves and Crimson Fists have a proud history of waging war against the orks on Armageddon and beyond, purging the ferocious xenos with bolter and blade.

World Ablaze is an anthology that contains 11 brand new tales of the Imperium’s eternal struggle against the ork menace, from many of your favourite Black Library authors – including Guy Haley, Denny Flowers, Marc Collins and more. This hardback is only available while stocks last, and the eBook version will be available on the Black Library App from 9 May 2026.

Legends of the Waaagh!: An Ork Omnibus

Unrelenting, ferocious and proud, orks unleash gleeful carnage as one of the fiercest and numerous threats ever faced by humanity, and now three of their most devastating campaigns are chronicled in Legends of the Waaagh!, a new omnibus featuring three novels from fan favourite Black Library authors.

I Am Slaughter by Dan Abnett sees the Imperial Fists leaving Terra for the first time in centuries, and in doing so, encountering a foe far mightier (and… greener?) than they anticipated. In Sandy Mitchell’s Caves of Ice, Commissar Ciaphas Cain investigates the mysterious disappearances that plague an ice world, but soon finds himself caught between an ork incursion and another evil stirring below. Helsreach by Aaron Dembski-Bowden follows the Black Templars as they take a last stand to defend Hive Helsreach on Armageddon, whatever the cost.

Can the Space Marines, the Astra Militarum, or even Ciaphas Cain himself be enough to stem the great green tide? Find out in this omnibus of classic tales. The paperback version is only available while stocks last, and the eBook format will be available from 9 May 2026.

Yarrick: The Omnibus

Yarrick: once just a name, but now a hero forged from the blood of the Imperium’s enemies. Time after time, Commissar Sebastian Yarrick has fearlessly led Imperial forces to victory beneath black banners of vengeance, even when defeat seemed inevitable. This gripping omnibus contains all of author David Annandale’s stories about the famed commissar – two novels, Imperial Creed and The Pyres of Armageddon, along with the novella Chains of Golgotha and six short stories, each revealing the bloody battles that helped shape a legend.

This paperback format is only available while stocks last. The eBook is already available via the Black Library App.

Veterans of the Fall

They were the best of the best. Now they are all that is left.

When Cadia fell, a handful of traumatised survivors found themselves stranded on a ruined redoubt world carved apart by rival cults. Since then, the Kasrkin veterans known as the Tattershields have anchored the crumbling Imperial defence, holding back the overwhelming might of the Archenemy with sabotage, assassinations and unbreakable discipline. Their commander, Sergeant Kostantin Taikon, is an inspiration to the beleaguered defenders. But he is haunted by guilt and consumed by fatalism, numbly fighting on with no hope of victory or atonement.

The Imperials’ grip on the planet is slipping. Infiltrators sow discord in their ranks, and a sadistic new enemy is bearing down upon them. But when all hope is dead, only defiance remains, and Taikon will lead his indomitable Kasrkin to the bitter end.

Veterans of the Fall by William Crowe contains the new novella Veterans of the Fall, the complete serial Tatters of Hope that was first published in White Dwarf magazine, and the short story Tattershield.

The paperback edition is available to pre-order from Saturday, and the eBook and audiobook versions will be available in the Black Library App from 9 May 2026.

Demolisher (French & German Editions)

The war for warp-cursed Croatoas rages on. Hailed as ‘Giant-killers’ for their heroics during Operation Jotunn, Lieutenant Commander Hadeya Etsul and the crew of the Leman Russ Demolisher Steel Tread are hurled right back into battle.

Assigned command of a convoy of armour and infantry, Etsul is tasked with escorting a legendary lord commissar through contested territory to stabilise the wavering Ruega Front. But with a new crew member disturbing the delicate harmony of her tank and a malevolent nemesis lurking unseen in the high passes ahead, the mission proves even more dangerous than first thought.

Demolisher by Andy Clark will soon be available in new French- and German-language editions.

Yarrick: Imperial Creed (French & German Editions)

Yarrick: the very name carries the weight of legend, of great deeds and of wars won for the Imperium. But Sebastian Yarrick, who fought on Armageddon, who Space Marine Chapter Masters show their fealty to on bended knee, was not always Lord Commissar.

He was once just a man, a newly minted officer from the ranks of the Schola Progenium. Here is where the legend began. In this crucible was Lord Commissar Sebastian Yarrick forged in blood.

Yarrick: Imperial Creed by David Annandale will soon be available in new French- and German-language editions.

These French- and German-language paperbacks of Demolisher and Yarrick: Imperial Creed are only available while stocks last. You’ll be able to get eBook versions on the Black Library App from 9 May 2026.
