Sunday Preview – Reinforce your Horus Heresy army with standalone Saturnine kits

You may already be getting to grips with the new edition of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness, and individual units from the massive Saturnine box will be made available to pre-order next week.

Saturnine Praetor

Praetors are some of the mightiest Space Marine warriors around, permitted to wield the finest wargear of their Legion in battle, including experimental prototypes like Saturnine-pattern Terminator armour. This standalone release of the Saturnine Praetor is filled with options, including a concussion hammer, a Saturnine war axe, and a plasma blaster, along with numerous cosmetic options.

These include four heads, a cloth tabard or leather pteruges with two different belt options, two aiguillettes to hang across the chest (or leave off), two pauldron choices for each shoulder, and hanging medallions or pteruges for the shoulders. The ball joints for arms and legs include tabs for easy posing on the battlefield rubble that’s included, but these can be cut off for very flexible custom posing. The box contains a Horus Heresy character transfer sheet comprising 339 decals.

Saturnine Terminator Squad

Saturnine-pattern Terminator armour turns its wearers into walking tanks wielding terrifying energy weapons and protected by shielding that makes them even harder to stop. This standalone release contains four miniatures with numerous options. For every two Terminators, there are four heads, two plasma bombards, two twin heavy disintegrators, and two left-handed Saturnine disruption fists. Each features ball joints in the knees with tabs for easy posing, which can be cut off for more customisation. The box contains a Legiones Astartes infantry transfer sheet comprising 618 decals.

Saturnine Siege Dreadnought – Chiron Configuration

Standing taller than even a Leviathan Dreadnought, the Saturnine Siege Dreadnought is a walking colossus, piloted by a Space Marine who is psychically attuned to his equipment. They engage their enemy from mid-range, obliterating vehicles and infantry alike with punishing salvos from a range of devastating weapons.

The Chiron Configuration is armed with disintegrator cannon and heavy plasma bombard arm weapons, plus a choice of chest-mounted photonic incinerators or twin concussion resonators. It features a number of assembly options including leg armour with standard or stylised trim, a Loyalist and a Traitor gorget, two head options with two face plates each, an optional sculpted halo, and three sets of front-facing armour plates. The box also contains a Horus Heresy Dreadnought transfer sheet comprising 528 decals.

Saturnine Siege Dreadnought – Ophion Configuration

The Ophion Configuration retains all the same cosmetic customisation options as the Chiron, with a set of different weapon options: arm-mounted inversion beamer and graviton pulveriser, and chest-mounted heavy particle shredders. The box includes a Horus Heresy Dreadnought transfer sheet comprising 528 decals.

Saturnine Siege Dreadnought Weapons

Sprues for both Dreadnought configurations will also be available separately from the Warhammer webstore, allowing for additional customisation options. Advanced modellers will be able to magnetise the armsf in order to switch out configurations as mission parameters demand.

Centurion with Power Maul

Centurions have proven themselves in battle time and time again, rising through the ranks thanks to their tactical acumen and physical prowess. This Centurion is armed with a power maul, clad in MkII “Crusade” pattern armour, and has a choice of a helmeted head or a bare head with a rebreather. The box also contains a Horus Heresy character transfer sheet with 339 decals.

MkII Veteran Squad with Disintegrators

Veteran Tactical Squads are warriors who have served since the early days of the Great Crusade, or those who have earned the stripes in many gruelling battles. They are permitted to wield rare and dangerous weapons, including Terran disintegrator weapons. This kit contains 10 Space Marine Legionaries in MkII “Crusade” pattern armour, and a sprue containing 10 disintegrator rifles, two combi-disintegrators, two disintegrator pistols, two disintegrator blasters, two heavy disintegrators, and 10 battery packs. It also contains a Horus Heresy Tactical Marine accessory frame, and a Legiones Astartes infantry transfer sheet with 618 decals.

Disintegrator Weapons Upgrade Set

Outfit your MkII, MkIII and MkVI squads with an array of highly destructive disintegrator weapons with this standalone release, which contains two upgrade frames. Inside you’ll find 20 disintegrator rifles, four combi-disintegrators, four disintegrator pistols, four disintegrator blasters, four heavy disintegrators, and 20 battery packs.

Araknae Quad Accelerator Platform

Every Space Marine Legion had a number of standardised fortifications at its command that could deploy from orbit to create networks of defences, and footholds from which their forces could slowly expand to claim new territory. The Araknae Quad Accelerator Platform is one of the largest, a huge gun emplacement armed with quad accelerator autocannons that projects a protective forcefield around it thanks to its atomantic pavise. This kit contains a Legiones Astartes vehicle transfer sheet with 288 transfers.

Legiones Astartes Drop Pod

Drop Pods are designed to plunge Space Marines into the heart of battle, a method of conveyance that became iconic for its use by the Legions throughout the Horus Heresy and beyond. This returning plastic kit contains a single plastic Drop Pod – which was previously available with Warhammer 40,000 branding – and a Legiones Astartes vehicle transfer sheet with 288 transfers.

Age of Darkness Markers and Tokens

The new edition of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy includes new Tactical Statuses which affect your game in different ways. This markers and tokens set contains forty plastic tokens which you can use to track these statuses, and also mark objectives. It contains eight each of Pinned, Suppressed, Stunned and Routed Tactical Status tokens which are 28mm in diameter, and eight 32mm Objective Markers.

Age of Darkness Dice Set

Make sure you’ve got enough dice for your games with the Age of Darkness dice set. It contains 20 dice cast in pearlescent black with silver ink pips. Each pack comes with 19 regular six-sided dice with the Sons of Horus logo on the six face, and a scatter dice.

White Dwarf 515

August’s issue of White Dwarf is a Space Marine special. There are rules for a Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Operations mini-game you can play with your own miniatures, with cards included, as well as background for the game’s setting – Warzone Bastior. You can look forward to instructions on how to create your own Chapter, accompanied by examples by ’Eavy Metal and staff from the studios, and there’s even a unique Space Marines Transfer Sheet with 442 decals, plus a double-sided A2 poster with Mechanicus II art one one side, and Space Marine armour marks on the other.

Mortal Realms content comes in a Skaven flavour this month with a look at the Great Horned Rat and the creation of the Spires of the Gnaw diorama, and there’s also another instalment of The Trials of Albarak. Finally, there’s a discussion of the design of the miniatures in the Saturnine boxed set, plus a visit to the Bunker rounds things out. We’ll have more details on what you can find inside on Monday.

The End and the Death: Volume III

It is time for the final confrontation. Sanguinius lies dead, slain by his brother, Terra burns as reality unravels, Loyalist and Traitor forces are locked in brutal battle, and high above the Throneworld a father and son prepare to do battle. Dan Abnett’s The End and the Death: Volume III is the final chapter of the Siege of Terra series, and the epic denouement to the most pivotal story in all of Warhammer 40,000. You can pre-order it in paperback next week.

Here Is Where It Will End Map

The special edition of The End and the Death: Volume III featured a map of the Sanctum Imperialis surrounded by the Chaos Gods, an illustrative representation of the field of battle. It is being released again as a cotton map, wrapped in a faux-leather map-wrap with a faux-leather cord and engraved metallic pendant, so it looks as good rolled up as it does unfurled. It is presented in a matt laminated box with gold foil blocking.

Kingsblade

The Imperial world of Donatos has fallen to the Word Bearers, and it is the Knight Houses of Adrastapol that form the vanguard of the assault to clear out the heretics. After tragedy strikes their force, Knights Errant Danial and Luk must quickly learn the ways of war in order to stop the Word Bearers’ unholy ritual and prevent the destruction of the Houses of Adrastapol. Kingsblade by Andy Clark will be available to pre-order in MP3 audiobook format next week.

Bolters might be the weapon that your mind conjures when thinking about Warhammer 40,000, but the lasgun is the most ubiquitous weapon of the setting. In this week’s episode of Weapons and Wargear you can find out the history of this humble firearm and its use in Warhammer 40,000.

Episode three of Victory Pointers is all about the power of movement in Warhammer Age of Sigmar. On the surface it’s the simplest action in the game, but it can win and lose games and takes time to master – watch this episode to pick up some top tips. On Citadel Colour Masterclass you can learn how to paint your most venerable and ancient Seraphon in pale, albino colour schemes, to separate your leaders from the pack.

Next week on Warhammer Community we’ll have reveals, some beautifully painted Horus Heresy miniatures, and much more besides.
