The new edition of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy is here, and it wouldn’t be a big box release without a rogue’s gallery of community painters making brand new miniatures look their best. Today we’re starting with the Loyalist legions, and there are some belters.

The Saturnine Praetor is one of the headline miniatures from the Saturnine boxed set, and Vincenzo starts off strong with an incredible Blood Angels rendition dripping with colour and contrast. Jose’s Raven Guard Praetor cuts a stark figure in black and white with tasteful purple details, while Jon’s Space Wolf commander matches muted greys with warm gold trim.

Henry converted his Iron Hands Praetor with additional mechadendrites and a Forge World resin head from years gone by, giving us a rare look at an unhelmeted Saturnine miniature. Jarek wore his model’s shoulders down with cracks so beautifully highlighted they look real, and Jack gave his Imperial Fist a little extra sauce with some white armour on one side.

Jack also painted up one of the new Centurions in MkII Crusade armour, and Brennan modified the miniature’s body to fit on a plastic Scimitar Jetbike for his intricately converted White Scar. Liam – who painted the Primarch Vulkan back when the Age of Darkness boxed set first released – continues his excellent run of Salamanders, while James returns us to Baal with a striking red Blood Angels Centurion.

Lloyd tackled the towering Saturnine Dreadnought with gusto, giving its bright yellow armour plenty of chipping and scratches. Joshua lent his brush to the Araknae Quad Accelerator Platform, making the surprisingly large gun battery pop with another splash of Inwit’s regalia.

The Saturnine Terminators were also a popular group to paint, with Richard giving his VII Legion a very warm take on the Imperial Fists’ yellow while Chris spiced his Raven Guard up with an uncommon crimson colour scheme. Alejandro adopted a classic red, black, and gold Blood Angels palette for his trio of Terminators, and Rich put his lonesome veteran through hell with loads of muck and weathering that speaks to his nightmarish experience at the Dropsite Massacre.

Finally, Colin got through 10 miniatures to bring a whole Ultramarines Tactical Squad to life – all wonderfully regal in deep blue and gold – while Paulie decked out his MkII Space Marines as a battle-worn band of five White Scars. Knotley brings up the rear with his classically diverse painting style, this time choosing to reflect early-Great Crusade armour colours for his Imperial Fist, Iron Hand, and Salamander Space Marines.
We’ll have the Traitor contingent landing soon – it was about four hours after on Isstvan V, but we’ll be a little longer – so stay with us here on Warhammer Community for more awesomely painted Space Marines later this week.
