Warhammer Age of Sigmar Miniature of the Decade – The winners

Today we’re celebrating Warhammer Day, the Warhammeriest day of the year, and we’re also marking ten years of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.

We recently asked you to vote for your favourite miniature from Warhammer Age of Sigmar, as part of the celebrations for the last decade of the epic fantasy wargame. From the Abhorrant Archregent, who epitomises the gory fantasy of the Flesh-eater Courts in a single modest miniature, to the towering majesty and terror of Archaon the Everchosen, we gave you a short list of 50 to vote from, and tens of thousands of you did the tough task of choosing your favourite. Let’s count them down.

Just snagging 10th place by a handful of votes – sorry, Mangler Squigs! – Ionus Cryptborn soars in on Cthorak. It’s fitting that a character who first appeared in the original Warhammer Age of Sigmar boxed set would make the top 10, albeit revitalised in thunderstrike armour and riding a terrifying Draconith.

Morathi-Khaine nabbed the ninth spot, her winged, serpentine form having terrorised battlefields for years. Everything about her screams aggression, in contrast to Alarielle the Everqueen, who takes the eighth place…

Imperious as you’d expect from an aelven god, she stands atop her giant wardroth beetle, and stands out as a statement of intent from the early days of the game.

We’re pretty sure Alarielle would be quite miffed to hear she’d been beaten in the votes by a herald of Nurgle, but the Harbinger of Decay was an unmistakable classic right out the gates. The original metal miniature was already fantastic, and the more recent plastic version takes it to corrupted new heights.

Thankfully, Lord Kroak is here to put things in sixth place.* The eldest slann still sort of living, unfinished business has Kroak float around on his ornate throne, which brings to mind an astrolabe – fitting for this stargazing amphibian.

In fifth place comes Vizzik Skour, Prophet of the Horned Rat. With the Skaven deity muscling in on the Great Game as the fifth Ruinous Power, it’s no surprise that his most venerable worshipper takes a place on this list. With his stunning crown of horns, papal vestments, angular armour, and loads of little rats scurrying over him, this verminous priest is a true showstopper.

There have been a fair amount of characters mounted on impressive monstrous steeds in Age of Sigmar – Gordrakk, Gobsprakk, and Tahlia Vedra to name a few – but Prince Vhordrai is now right up there in fourth place as your favourite bar one. The grotesque, rotting form of Shordemaire provides the Lord of the Crimson Keep with a suitably awe-inspiring steed that sums up the decaying majesty of the Soulblight Gravelords.

3rd place – Archaon Everchosen

Grand Marshal of the Apocalypse, ruler of the Eightpoints, primary antagonist of the Age of Sigmar, and all-around menace, Archaon Everchosen claims the third spot. That’s the same number of heads that his titanic mount, Dorghar, sports – one each for Khorne, Nurgle, and Tzeentch. Still easily the biggest miniature in all of Age of Sigmar, Archaon has been a lynchpin of Slaves to Darkness lists for years… but even this unflinching tyrant is going to be mad at who beat him in the votes.

2nd place – Be’lakor, the Dark Master

It’s only fitting that the first Everchosen, snubbed by the Chaos Gods, would beat Archaon in the popular vote. Be’lakor has always been the people’s favourite, though some might say that’s down to his use of schemers and plotters to ensure his success. A winged daemon that exudes dark intent, and sets the gold standard for daemons in Warhammer, it’s no surprise he takes the second spot. Which leaves us with just one miniature. Bow low, peasants…

The winner – Ushoran, Mortarch of Delusion

Sumeros Summerking, the Carrion King, the Lord of Masques, the First Exemplar, the Blood Rose Prince, the Sombre Paladin, and now the official Warhammer Age of Sigmar Miniature of the Decade, it’s none other than Ushoran, Mortarch of Delusion. Roaring into first place without a flicker of doubt, the mad delusion of Ushoran clearly affected you all deeply. You can learn directly from the designers about the work that went into this mad regent (and more of the Flesh-eaters), but the way that Ushoran couples the symbols of rule with the bestial horror of the Carrion Courts clearly resonated with fans. Our favourite touch – the way his hand is held forward so that you may supplicate yourself and kiss his royal rings. A perfect execution of the deranged fantasy of the Flesh-eater Courts.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote. If you feel like your choice was robbed, you can let us know on the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Facebook page who you’d see added to the list.
