With all the awesome new miniatures coming out alongside The Maelstrom: Lair of the Tyrant, it’s no surprise that our crew of community painters were spoiled for choice when deciding what they wanted to have a crack at. We got so many back that we’re splitting up the Red Corsairs and Aeldari Corsairs into two separate articles, and today it’s the turn of Huron Blackheart and his villainous reavers.
Huron Blackheart
The boss man himself has unmatched presence, from his crazed grin to the wicked barbs of the Tyrant’s Claw, and even in his traditional armour colours, each of these paintjobs from Angelo, Jon, Lloyd, and Sam stand out with a wide range of phenomenal skills and techniques on display.
Huron proved to be popular – understandably – so we had no shortage of tyrants to collect from our community painters. Nathan, Sheila, Vincenzo, and Joshua also did amazing jobs with their miniatures, with the incredible lighting and shadow on Vincenzo’s submission deserving a special shout-out.
Masters of the Maelstrom
The eclectic crew that accompany Huron to the battlefield are a great way to show off a variety of painting techniques, with practically every colour and texture under the sun present across the Masters of the Maelstrom. Nathan opted to paint Captain Sargotta, while both Darcy and Patrick went with the Enforcer – props to Darcy for finishing Plunder too – and Adrian took on Garreon the Corpsemaster.

Most excellently, Joshua found time between painting Huron and a Reave-Captain to complete the entire unit. With discipline and dedication like that, he should probably think about starting his own renegade fleet.
Red Corsairs Raiders and Reave-Captain
The Red Corsairs Raiders inspired dozens of alternate colour schemes and thoughtful painting. Marc’s Raiders are really Alpha Legion infiltrators in disguise – with one of them slipping out of his camouflage – while Vincent applied his usual technicolour sensibilities to depict the miniatures as fresh renegades still wearing their Chapter colours. Andrew and Marko went for something more restrained by comparison, but no less awe-inspiring.
Reave-Captains were also sought after, with the various options included in the kit giving our painters a leg up when customising their hero. Mikey, Joshua (again!?) and Christine all join Team Blunt Object with wicked-looking power mauls, while Pierce bucked the trend with a power sword and plasma pistol combo.
Terminators

The new Red Corsairs battleforce box also comes with a unit of Terminators and upgrades to give them properly sculpted shoulder pads, which Benjamin kindly painted up for us in a nice, vibrant shade of crimson.
Red Corsairs raiding party

Not content with simply doing a few miniatures here and there, Robert polished off a whole contingent – including Huron, the Masters of the Maelstrom, and some Raiders – to join a larger force of classic Red Corsairs featuring bikes, infantry, and an immaculately painted Rhino.
Night Lords conversion

Fallen conversion

Uh… maybe be careful who you tell about this one. The Dark Angels are prowling around and just one mention of the Fallen is enough to set them off. Dave’s converted squad – using parts from the Red Corsairs Raiders and loads of other kits – will have to look ridiculously cool on their own, so you can stare at them while we lead the Lion’s boys on a diversionary goose chase.
We’ll be back tomorrow with the Aeldari Corsairs! If looking at all this incredible work is enough to make you want your own renegade Space Marines, make sure to pick up a copy of The Maelstrom: Lair of the Tyrant when it goes up for pre-order this Saturday.
