The reveal of a brand new Captain Titus miniature and his multifarious entourage was a highlight of last year’s World Championships Preview, and for good reason – they look absolutely amazing. The good Captain has always been one to value advice from all kinds of allies, so it’s no wonder that he surrounds himself with such an eclectic group both on and off the battlefield.
On the rare occasions that these Wardens of Ultramar take to the battlefield as a unit, they’re a real force to be reckoned with – as we’re about to see.

Titus himself already has rules for his earlier miniature, when he was gallivanting around the Recidious System as a Lieutenant, and his promotion affords him a suitably upgraded set of weapons and abilities.
A shiny new suit of power armour and Iron Halo give him an extra Wound and a 4+ Invulnerable Save – good news for someone as headstrong as Titus – and his chainsword is now master-crafted, with an extra point of Strength and Damage.* Just throw him into close combat and watch the limbs fly – just like in Space Marine 2.

Even more fun than that is a change to his Honour of Ultramar ability. As previously, it gives him a solid chance to get some licks in if he’s brought down in close combat before he can swing, but now if he manages to kill something with those attacks, he hauls himself back up to continue the fight. That’s some real main character energy right there.
As a standalone Captain, Titus can join a wide variety of units without the Wardens around, but would you really want to leave them twiddling their thumbs aboard the Righteous Fury when they could be getting stuck in alongside him?

The Wardens of Ultramar can attach themselves to another unit at the start of battle – sort of like they were one big Character – and then have Titus join them, so you get one big mob of elite warriors ready to do battle. We particularly recommend matching them with a big unit of Bladeguard Veterans, who really look the business next to such illustrious company, and then you can pile them all into one of the larger Land Raiders.

Of particular note is their Strategium Command ability, which lets you redeploy a load of units after everyone has set up and your opponent thinks they know where all the safe spots are. One moment there’s a clear line of sight to an objective and then BAM – a Dreadnought in their face. Heldrakes beware.**
You’ll be able to download copies of these datasheets, as well as the new Space Marines Detachments from the 500 Worlds: Titus supplement, in an update to the Space Marine Faction Pack that’s due for release any day now. Join us again next week as we get unnervingly close to the big bad of the story – Nekrosor Ammentar.
* He still keeps that spicy Anti-Infantry 2+ ability too.
** Some say that Redemptor Dreadnought from Space Marine 2 practices their statue-throwing to this day.
