Zone Mortalis rules – Fight furious close-range skirmishes in the Age of Darkness

The Horus Heresy might be best known for its enormous battles and epic sieges, but just as often the action was confined to deadly labyrinths of tunnels, corridors, and enclosed ruins. These Zone Mortalis battles were vicious affairs where bloody firefights blazed across every doorway and barricade, and now you’ll be able to plunge your own Warhammer: The Horus Heresy army into the chaos with a long-awaited update to the classic mission pack.

Zone Mortalis games are typically fought between 1,500-point armies in battlefields filled with dense terrain, obscuring walls, and hazardous obstacles, where even moving too fast can be a major health risk. Aircraft and barrage weapons are nowhere to be seen, and you’ll have to think long and hard about where your tanks can even fit before trying to cram a lovingly painted Fellblade into your local hive city’s residential district.

Sounds like fun? Who are you, the Death Guard? XIV Legion or no, you can pick up the rules below.

The PDF download includes a full rule set for running games of Zone Mortalis, as well as three missions designed to be run on square battlefields – perfect for the Zone Mortalis floor tile pack. It’s a great opportunity to rethink your army and try out some new unit types, as Bulky infantry get caught in confined spaces and quick assault troops bypass seemingly impenetrable firing lines. You can even kill people by shutting doors on them!

It sounds like it’d be the perfect place for some close-range specialists. Maybe with big shields, or something like that. Where have we seen those before…?
