Sunday Preview – (Super) heavy metal in the Age of Darkness

The battlefields of the Horus Heresy were apocalyptic affairs to say the least, with scores of super-heavy vehicles being blown apart in moments and dutiful infantry fighting amongst their burning wrecks. Luckily, today’s big tank will fare much better, with a new plastic kit bringing it bang up to date with the current edition of the game.

Fellblade Super-heavy Battle Tank

The Fellblade is a massive and advanced battle tank designed specifically with the Legiones Astartes in mind, and is the lynchpin of many armoured assaults across the Horus Heresy. Its massive double-barrelled accelerator cannon can put holes in hard targets from an astonishing distance, and the rest of the chassis is bristling with guns, from a hull-mounted demolisher cannon to arrays of defensive heavy bolters.

This huge super-heavy tank was previously available in Forge World resin, and now is ready to rule the battlefield with a new plastic kit. Each Fellblade comes with a choice of paired laser destroyers, gravis heavy bolters, or lascannon arrays on sponsons, while the hull-mounted twin heavy bolters can be swapped for a twin heavy flamer and there’s a choice of pintle-mounted havoc launcher, heavy flamer, heavy bolter or multi-melta.*

MkII Assault Squad

Charge headlong into the action with an old-school Assault Squad clad in MkII Crusade-pattern power armour, sporting distinctive turbine-powered jump packs. This unit can be used as a regular Assault Squad in games of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy and is particularly good for making a Veteran Assault Squad look suitably venerable and experienced.

Each kit contains 10 multi-part plastic Assault Marines with options for bolt pistols or combat shields in their left hands, two power mauls, two heavy chainaxes, two sets of melta bombs, two disintegrator pistols, and an assortment of grenades, pouches, and other customisation parts.*

Journal Tactica: The Forges of Saturn

Discover the origins of the distinctive Saturnine-pattern Terminator armour and Dreadnought in the next Journal Tactica, The Forges of Saturn. This 48-page supplement reveals the early use of Saturnine technology in the Great Crusade and Vulkan’s later efforts to revitalise the designs, including how each of the other 17 Legions reacted to the Primarch’s gift before Horus began his fateful rebellion.

Alongside the new and expanded lore, this book contains rules for three new units – equipping Centurions and Command Squads in Saturnine armour and giving the Word Bearers a unique daemon-infused Terminator unit – and a new Prosperine arcana for the Thousand Sons. It also includes a new Legendary Mission depicting the Salamanders’ assault on the Death Guard’s fortified positions during the Dropsite Massacre, and three new asymmetric Onslaught Missions that task players with attacking their opponent’s defensive lines.*

Legiones Astartes Combat Force

A new trio of Combat Force box sets give you the perfect place to start a new collection for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – or expand your existing army – starting with the indomitable Legiones Astartes. This versatile set includes a mighty Leviathan Dreadnought equipped with a ranged weapons package, giving you the choice between any two of a cyclonic melta lance, grav flux bombard, or storm cannon, and a Rhino transport vehicle for shuttling your troops around the battlefield.

You also get 20 Space Marines in MkVI power armour and a Heavy Weapons upgrade set including 10 missile launchers and 10 heavy bolters, letting you build each group of 10 as either a Tactical Squad or a Heavy Support Squad. The box is rounded out with a Legiones Astartes decal sheet composed of 293 individual transfers and two Legiones Astartes Vehicle decal sheets with 44 transfers each.

Mechanicum Combat Force

The Mechanicum Combat Force leans into cybernetic troops with a unit of six highly mobile Thallax Cohort miniatures, equipped with lightning guns and with the choice of giving two either phased plasma-fusils, photon thrusters, or multi-meltas. This impressive complement of firepower is supported by a pair of Castellax Battle-automata who can be equipped with shock chargers or power blades and a choice of shoulder-mounted weapon, with two mauler bolt cannons, one darkfire cannon, and one multi-melta included, plus a towering Thanatar Cavas Siege-automata – a walking artillery piece packing an immense Hellex-pattern plasma mortar.

The box includes two Mechanicum Macro-constructs transfer sheets each containing 394 transfers and two Mechanicum Constructs transfer sheets with 558 transfers each.

Solar Auxilia Combat Force

Show those Space Marines the might of humanity’s finest with the Solar Auxilia Combat Force, which musters a full 20-man Lasrifle Section alongside a Tactical Command Section of five miniatures that can instead be assembled as either a lower-ranked Line Command Section or a Legatine Marshal and their bodyguard of four Lifewards – with loads of weapons and accessory parts for customising your officer. Two Hermes Sentinels can be assembled as either the Light or Veletaris variants, with a multi-laser or grenade launcher for the former and a heavy flamer or a volkite caliver for the latter, while a Solar Auxilia Leman Russ provides heavy armoured support with the choice of a battlecannon, twinned heavy lascannons or autocannons, or a long-barrelled Vanquisher battlecannon with a co-axial autocannon in the turret and one of five different hull weapons.

This box includes two Solar Auxilia Infantry Transfer Sheets each containing 152 transfers and two Solar Auxilia Vehicle Transfer Sheets with 180 transfers each.
