The New Year Preview – Show off your Blood Bowl skills with the superlative High Elf Team

Coaches and players around the world have returned to the gridiron with a renewed sense of sportsmanship and bloodlust with the release of Blood Bowl Third Season Edition in 2025, and now a long absent team strides out of the dugout to cheers from legions of adoring fans: the High Elves are here!

Hailing from the secluded island of Ulthuan, the High Elves are here to put some elegance back into the brutish game of Blood Bowl, and do it with fewer fatal stabbings than the Dark Elves.

The Caledor Dragons are ready to strut their stuff and leap all the way to the touchline.

Six special positionals make up one half of the team: two White Lions blitzers who are armed with Claws for prising open cages and defensive lines, two Phoenix Warriors throwers who throw high, arcing passes with Secure Pass and Cloud Burster, and two swaggering Dragon Princes with Block and Steady Footing who can block as well as they can score.

Every High Elf Team is well-armoured and agile, sporting Armour Value 9+ across the board. The six High Elf Linemen don’t come with any special skills, but do round out their impressive statline with MA6, and AG 2+, which makes them dependable and versatile. What a bunch of show offs.

You also get two turn and re-roll markers, two double-sided Blood Bowl coins, plus two Dragonling and two Shimmer Stone balls which have rules in the upcoming Spike! Journal Issue 21.

This latest instalment of the Blood Bowl magazine is filled with trivia and background information on High Elf teams – in particular the rocky history and recent successes of the Caledor Dragons, from their tragic near-destruction at the hands of the Darkside Cowboys, to their resurgence under the leadership of Prince Moranion’s son, Eltharion the Amiable.

There are rules included so you can play the Caledor Dragons at the height of their powers, with a special team rule, as well as rules for taking part in the Spectacle of the Flame Eternal, a league for Elven Kingdom Teams where you can dedicate yourself to one of eight different gods. On top of that, you get all your usual Spike! Journal articles including a coaching guide, and classic columns such as Chat with a Rat and Dirt from the Dugout.

In addition to the team and journal, you’ll also be able to get a suitably opulent double-sided pitch and dugout set so your team can play in the style to which High Elves are accustomed, alongside the usual team card pack, allowing you to have all your player stats at your fingertips, and a thematic dice set.

If you can tear your eyes away from this resplendent Blood Bowl team for even just a second, there are a stack of other excellent reveals to check out today – find them at the hub.
