Next week, the quarterly balance update for Warhammer 40,000 will be landing on our doorstep, and we had six new Detachments to share along with it. But wouldn’t you know it – the Red Gobbo pinched all of them out from under our noses, and since he’s such a big fan of sharing, he’s handing them all out over the next week.
First up is the Astra Militarum. Let’s see what the Warhammer Studio’s notes have to say about the new Grizzled Company.
Grizzled Company
Hailing from fortress worlds or planets ravaged by incessant war, the soldiers of this company have fought on the front lines for long and bloody months. Where other formations have collapsed under the strain of constant warfare, these iron-willed combat veterans retain their ferocious discipline. They carry out the decisive orders of their ruthless and exacting officers with a determination born of pride and zeal.
This Detachment focuses on forces of the Astra Militarum that have been deployed in the thick of the fighting for extended periods of time, becoming hardened Veterans who have survived through valour and discipline. Their experienced officers can issue additional Orders, and Astra Militarum units under the effect of an Order gain the ability to re-roll 1s To Hit against all targets or re-roll 1s To Hit and Wound against targets on objectives.
All four Enhancements are appropriately themed around Orders – two providing brand new Orders to add to your list of options, one extending Order ranges, and one letting an officer Order Ogryns and Bullgryns around, which nobody else can do.
The Stratagems are a mix of utility and damage buffs, providing a good suite of options for the Astra Militarum player to handle whatever the opponent throws at them. Offensively you have a Stratagem to ignore cover, a Stratagem to gain Lethal Hits, or a Stratagem to improve the Strength of your ranged attacks. Defensively, you can reduce the AP of incoming enemy shooting, and for utility you have the ability to secure an objective or issue an additional Order in a different phase.
