Sunday Preview – Fight in Dead Silence and don’t wake the Necrons

Sssh, do you hear that? No? That’s because stealth specialists from the T’au Empire and Space Wolves are on the docket today, and they’ll need to be on their best behaviour – or the tomb world they’re snooping through will wake up. Not ideal.

If you’re feeling a little more celebratory, fear not, for plenty of Christmas gifts and other holiday knick-knacks are coming to raise the cheer. Need a quick present for the special Warhammer fan in your life? We’ve got you.

Kill Team: Dead Silence

On the one hand, Necron tomb worlds are spectacularly dangerous, but on the other, they’re filled with tantalising technology just waiting to be grabbed by curious minds. The T’au Empire take the curiosity cake, and their search for the secrets of Necron translocation tech drags the elite scouts of the Space Wolves into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse in the slumbering crypt.

Their hunt bears fruit in Kill Team: Dead Silence, as the Wolf Scouts catch up to a Stealth Battlesuit kill team and conflict erupts amidst ranks of unmoving – but still very dangerous – Necron warriors. This boxed set includes two full kill teams, a narrative campaign map pad and log pad for tracking your progress through the story, the Dead Silence Dossier book containing all of the new mission rules and exciting lore, a T’au Empire infantry transfer sheet, a new Space Wolves transfer sheet, and enough tokens for both sides to face off in a game from the get-go.

The XV26 Stealth Battlesuit kill team is made up of seven multi-part plastic miniatures – five operatives and two drones – with either a burst cannon or fusion blaster mounted onto their arm. They are the ultimate stealth infiltrators and can be virtually undetectable in the killzone, making them a challenging but rewarding team to tackle.

Wolf Scouts are unlike the novitiate scouting companies of other Space Marine Chapters, welcoming only those grizzled veterans who have served for many years instead of fresh-faced recruits. Their tracking skills are unmatched, and with five new multi-part plastic operatives to deploy – plus their loyal Fenrisian Wolf – they have an answer for almost every conceivable foe. This product is available while stocks last.

Deathwatch Kill Team

They gave their name to the game itself, so the new Deathwatch kill team was always going to be something special – and it finally makes its way to the killzone with a phenomenal kit stuffed with optional builds, customisation pieces, and oodles of character.

A box contains five Deathwatch miniatures that can each be built as one of two different operatives,* 16 different heads, a whopping 29 shoulder pads with moulded chapter badges, a Deathwatch token sheet, and the satisfaction of denying the xenos their victory for another day. Mileage on the last one may vary.

Canoptek Circle Kill Team

Twist the battlefield and use its power for your own ends with the Canoptek Circle kill team, centered heavily around the powerful Necron Geomancer and their attendant horde of robotic drones. This kill team contains eight multi-part plastic miniatures and is especially rewarding for cerebral players who can work out how best to plan their later moves – just as a diligent Necron Cryptek would.

Deathwatch & Canoptek Circle Datacards

Accessorise your Deathwatch and Canoptek Circle kill teams with a set of handy datacards, containing datasheet references for all of your operatives, faction rules, equipment, ploys, and everything else you need to play your kill team of choice.

Killzone: Tomb World

Descend into the tomb world once again with this standalone set of terrain for Kill Team, based on a slowly crumbling Necron tomb. This set uses close quarters rules – seen previously in the season that took place inside a poisoned space hulk  –  that make games tighter and more dramatic affairs, containing 25 individual terrain pieces plus a double-sided game board.

We have a lot of Christmas gifts to get through today, so we’re going to rattle them off and let you decide which you’ll be picking up for yourself or another Warhammer fan this Christmas.

Tree looking decidedly drab? Cover it with delightfully decorated Chaos God baubles – coming in a set of four – and then top it with a majestic Twin-tailed Comet tree topper, made of metal so it stays firmly on the upper branches. Wrap up warm and fetch yourself a cup of cocoa using a new Mug and Coaster Gift Set** themed after Da Red Gobbo and his trusty squig Bounca, stars of last year’s Red Gobbo Christmas miniature. Speaking of warm, you can also get a new Knitted Hat and Scarf Set in either Space Wolves or Adepta Sororitas patterns, while Multi-faction Christmas Stockings covered in faction icons will keep everything stuffed into them nice and toasty.

You can also keep your own feet nice and warm with a pair of Space Wolves Socks decked out with tasteful patterns. If all of the salivating over cool Warhammer merch has made you ruin your mouse pad, just grab another – the Gloomspite Gitz Squig Mouse Pad, to be exact. It features the roaring face of an angry squig, and it’s a great little guy to have looking up at you as you work away or relax in the winter evenings with a Warhammer video game.

Finally, the Squig Mega Hoodie returns for another triumphant run alongside a new Nurgling Mega Hoodie, designed to make you look like an oversized specimen that has caught Grandfather’s careful eye. It’s absolutely huge, extremely comfy, and almost certainly won’t turn you into a fleshy thrall oozing with unspeakable liquids.

White Dwarf 518

Celebrate 50 years of Games Workshop with an issue packed with wistful retrospectives and madcap challenges, from a deep look at the history of the humble boltgun to chariot racing rules for Warhammer Age of Sigmar. We’ll be recreating classic Battle Reports, playing old starter sets with modern rules, and zooming back to the present day with the newest faction to join the worlds of Warhammer – the Helsmiths of Hashut.

That’s not all, either, as there are still plenty of articles on background lore, a look back at the many Black Library stories published so far, and all of the miniatures showcases you know and love.***

Archmagos

For years, Belisarius Cawl has nurtured an audacious plan to stabilise the Attilan Gap sufficiently that the Imperium might open a stable route into Imperium Nihilus. With the Primarch Roboute Guilliman having crossed the Great Rift, and now isolated on the far side, time is running out in Archmagos by Guy Haley.

Before Cawl can perfect his latest great work, he requires one last element: control codes preserved on an ancient Necron world trapped on the event horizon of a black hole. Realising that even he cannot do this alone, Cawl recruits help from across the Adeptus Mechanicus. Yet as victory nears, malign intelligences have taken note of the archmagos, and Cawl is about to discover it is unwise indeed to provoke the interest of Vashtorr the Arkifane…

This new novel will be available to pre-order in hardback, eBook, and MP3 audiobook formats.

Archmagos will also be available in a glorious special edition release, with red and gold foil on the front, back, and spine, plus gilt page edges and a red ribbon page marker. This special edition will only be available while stocks last.

Eisenhorn: Hereticus (Illustrated and Annotated Edition)

The beloved third instalment in the Eisenhorn series – Hereticus by Dan Abnett – returns more stunning than you’ve ever seen it before in a new illustrated and annotated edition of the classic novel, to join its two forebears. Eisenhorn is on the run from his former allies as a dangerous radical, and the emergence of a heretic long thought dead may just prove that he’s still a loyal servant of the Inquisition – even if he has to dabble in unsavoury practices to accomplish his goal.

This edition contains 14 brand-new colour illustrations completed in a black, white, and red accent colour style, author commentary and annotations throughout the novel, and an all-new author afterword. It will be available to pre-order strictly while stocks last.

Renegades: Harrowmaster (Special Edition)

Solomon Akurra has spotted an opportunity to prove he is worthy of taking on the title of Harrowmaster, by leading his warband in the fight against the newly unveiled Primaris Space Marines. The nature of the Alpha Legion makes uniting the disparate heads of the hydra against this new threat a tall order, however, and he must battle enemies within and without to succeed.

Mike Brooks’ Renegades: Harrowmaster will be available to pre-order in a beautiful new special edition decorated with aqua blue foil details, printed page edges, and a matching aqua blue ribbon page marker. This edition will be available strictly while stocks last.

The Twice-Dead King Omnibus

Drink deep of the majestic Necrons in a new omnibus collecting two epic novels and four short stories, The Twice-Dead King Omnibus by Nate Crowley. The first two stories recount the tale of the spurned noble Oltyx and his quest to reclaim ancestral lands from devious betrayers, before defending them against those who would see the dynasty undone as soon as it has risen.

In addition to the two novels, one novella and three short stories tackle the Necrons from widely different perspectives. The novella Severed brings us to the vaunted Sautekh dynasty, where the Stormlord himself has charged Zahndrekh and Vargard Obyron with putting down a rebellion. ‘One Million Years’ pits the eternal Necrons against the ambitious Leagues of Votann aboard an awakening Necron ship. ‘The Life of Jethras the Martyr’ takes us to the other side to see how a lowly pilgrim found a moment of glory in fighting back against the hated Necrons. Finally, ‘Patience’ tells the story of a Voidborn crewman who encounters Astartes, Necrons, and... something else for the first time – and lives to tell the tale.

This omnibus will be available to pre-order in paperback and eBook formats.

This week on Warhammer+, three teams face off in a rambunctious arena battle packed entirely with vehicles, Dreadnoughts, and other armoured units in the sixth episode of Arena of Death. Loremasters looks into the shaky alliances that bind the forces of Order together against their mutual foes in the Mortal Realms, while the final episode of Tale of Four Painters has our hobbyists looking back at their time creating 3,000-point armies for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy, and all of the experiences that led up to their monumental project.

Finally, we have drawn the winner for the JOYTOY Imperial Knight competition. The winner is from Germany, and is listed anonymously due to German privacy legislation.
