White Dwarf issue 512 is up for pre-order this Saturday, and after the hard-partying issue we had last month courtesy of the Emperor’s Children it’s time for something a bit more… inexorable. Luckily, the Death Guard have been clamouring for their own feature spot, so this month we’re dedicating a hefty amount of pages to Mortarion’s plague-ridden cabal.

We start with something exceedingly dangerous – a sneaky trip into the vaults of the Grey Knights to uncover academic texts, frantic notes, and insane scrawls written about the Death Guard from sources across the galaxy. These critical components of the Chapter’s research give valuable insight into the many cults and plague companies operating inside the Imperium, and shine a light on previously unseen sides of Nurgle’s congregation.

A new Aspects of War rules package turns your Warhammer 40,000 battlefields into a festering mire fit for a Blightlord, as six noxious plagues slowly grow in strength before blossoming into game-long effects that affect both sides – though depending on the disease, it may be worse for your opponent than it is for you. Don’t have many vehicles or monsters? Pump the Bane of Behemoths with Nurgle juice and watch it corrode their armour.

Elsewhere, hobbyists from across the Warhammer Studio show off their grisliest Death Guard and Maggotkin of Nurgle, touching on why they love these grotesque little guys and how they achieve a suitably grubby paint scheme. Many of their insights come with colour palettes too, so you can have a go painting your Space Marines in verdigris-inspired blues, mottled browns, and all sorts of other schemes.

Outside of all the pox-infested pages, we take a huge 14-page stroll through the incredible portrait galleries of Roman Lappat, who uses miniatures to create stunning dioramas that leap right out of the frame. Then, the Ironjawz warlord Dakkbad Grotkicker has to reclaim his own self-named fort from some perfidious vampires, with a new Warhammer Age of Sigmar battleplan letting you fight for control of Fort Dakkbad yourself – with thematic special abilities for both sides.

You can pre-order your copy on the 10th of May, but if you sign up for a 12-month subscription instead, you’ll get special full-art cover issues delivered right to your door – while saving money compared with buying them individually!
