We’ve been having tons of fun with the new Cataphractii Terminators over here at Warhammer HQ, and several folks from the team that creates Warhammer: The Horus Heresy have put paint to their own elite units – a compulsion that’s entirely understandable when you’ve been around them as long as they have.
There are quite a few to chew through, so we’ll just let them fly and see what you think.
Many of our painters did a set of each configuration, with Adam, Ben L, and Ben W painting Salamanders, Iron Warriors, and Iron Warriors (again) respectively.
The thick, broad plates of the Cataphractii-pattern Terminator armour show off many of the Legion colour schemes wonderfully, with plenty of space for details, unit badges, and flourishes like hazard stripes and contrasting trim. They also stand noticeably taller than your average Tactical Marine, making them properly imposing when arranged next to the rank-and-file.
Bethany opted for some bright Thousand Sons while Borja offered some clean and regal Ultramarines, followed up by Chris D with two sets of Blood Angels, and Connor with two different takes on his Sons of Horus – one in a classic black Justaerin scheme, the other in their standard sea green.
Finally, Chris opted for another set of Ultramarines in a dustier, more battle-worn style, while Dom painted the Space Wolves, James went heavy with Iron Hands, and Jason chose World Eaters for his Terminators. Stu and Thorbjorn took some classically speedy Legions and slowed them down with Cataphractii plate – painting White Scars and Emperor’s Children respectively – with some amazing metallic trim from Thorbjorn in particular.
You can muster your own Terminator squads and prepare for a heavy front line assault when both configurations – with volkite charger and power maul or combi-bolter and power fist – go up for pre-order tomorrow.
