On Warhammer TV, Josh, Alex, Ed, and Quinn embarked upon a Tale of Four Painters, building armies for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy in 1000-point increments. The show may be over, but as many hobbyists will know, a collection is never truly finished! So let’s see what three of our four gamers got up to next.
And if you want to watch how the team started their projects from the Age of Darkness, check out the episodes at the link below!

The Death Guard performed admirably – if not particularly successfully – over the course of A Tale of Four Gamers. Despite the firepower of my Vindicators and other heavy weapons, it was clear there was something of a gap in my roster – combat prowess – and my Allied Detachment has been rather underutilised.
So to fill a bloodthirsty niche in my force I’ve recruited some World Eaters. First up were some Despoilers in a Rhino… and then things snowballed, with a brutal Assault Squad kit built as Veterans, a Centurion with Jump Pack, some Cataphractii Terminators, and a Leviathan Dreadnought. The additional attack most World Eaters get when they Charge makes them a terrifying prospect to face! This means this robust force of savage combatants can advance and allow the Death Guard to do what they do best and focus on unleashing some devastating firepower.

Speaking of firepower, I’ve also added a mighty Fellblade to the arsenal of the Death Guard. Facing Ed’s Mastodon seems to have unlocked a primal fear and so a Lord of War which will stay far away from that siege melta array was exactly what was called for. The 100” range on the Fellblade accelerator cannon serves that purpose perfectly!
Josh
Throughout the show I rallied my Word Bearers collection from a fledgling host of heretics to a mighty army of… well, heretics. Throughout those battles, a thought occurred to me – whilst my Legionaries had faith on their side, they didn’t have any super-heavy vehicles. I thought to remedy this by adding my first Lord of War to the collection – a Fellblade!

An absolute powerhouse, both on the tabletop and as a centrepiece for my collection, the Fellblade was a natural addition to the force. It was a joy to put together and paint in my late Great Crusade era scheme and provide a real bulwark for my force to march alongside.

My force already featured two squads of mighty Saturnine Terminators, but one of my favourite patterns of Terminator armour is the Cataphractii. I was very keen to add them to my collection and this seemed like the perfect time. Cataphractii are a brutal unit on the battlefield and I wanted some to push vulnerable Tactical Marines off their precious objectives. I equipped mine with combi-bolters and power fists to make sure the job is thoroughly done.
Ed
After painting a veritable tidal wave of red throughout our Tale (including 10 Tartaros Terminators) I figured I would change things up slightly and add another small allied force to the army with some Sons of Horus Cataphractii Terminators. I did a bit of conversion work on these to make them fit.

Firstly I built four of the models and got the right arms sorted with four combi-bolters, one reaper autocannon, and one with a banner from the Legion Command Upgrade Set. The left arms took a little more work as I cut off and trimmed the hands so that I could fit on the Carsoran power axes that Sons of Horus Justaerin Terminators carry. When these were done it meant that I could run the squad as either a five-man Cataphractii Terminator Command Squad, or a five-man Cataphractii squad, with the axes representing either power axes or Carsoran power axes, should the points permit.

While the Allied Detachment is very forgiving when building an army, to run Terminators I’ll need to fill a Command slot to unlock what I need. The Sons of Horus Cataphractii Praetor has long been a model I’ve viewed with wide eyes and a covetous expression, so I quickly jumped on the chance to build and paint one, as it can represent either a Centurion or Praetor as needs require. With another quick weapon swap to change the power maul into the power axe from the plastic Cataphractii kit, my allies were complete!
