Warhammer art through the years: Orks

For almost as long as there have been Space Marines, Aeldari, and war in the 41st Millennium, there has been the great green plague of the Orks. Their unstoppable Waaagh!s – massive interstellar invasions that tear across the galaxy in a cacophony of violence – have brought ruin to Imperial, xenos, and heretic worlds alike, beating them into submission with a heady mix of raw aggression, brutal strength, and ramshackle jury-rigged technology.

As part of our ongoing series gazing over some of the greatest art from the history of Warhammer 40,000, we’re now taking a very careful look at the Ork encampment. They aren’t known for their artistic expression, but they know how to strike a good pose, and some of these pictures look pugnacious enough to jump right out of the screen for a scrap.

Let’s hear your best Waaagh!

Do you have any favourite pieces of classic Ork art that didn’t make the cut today? Any that are both meaner and greener? Let us know on the Warhammer 40,000 Facebook page.

Next time, we’re heading back to the swirling eddies of the Warp for a gallery viewing with one of the factions that should have the easiest time archiving their work – what with their love of libraries. Can you guess who it is?
