Community painters turn their brushes to the immortal empire of Grand Cathay

The armies of Grand Cathay have set off for the Old World, navigating the perilous Ivory Road to bring their weapons to bear against the rising threat of Chaos. With the Battalion, Arcane Journal, and individual units available to pre-order tomorrow, it’s time to drum up excitement with some amazing miniatures painted by the wider Warhammer community. For anyone that we were unable to feature, thank you for your efforts.

With such a vast selection of miniatures to choose from, a lot of painters opted to paint the champion of the Jade Warriors, a heroic figure who is perfect as a single display piece.

Our first gallery features impressive takes from Thor Intararangson, Andy Wardle, Angelo Di Chello, Chris Frosin, and Siôn Scannell.

A second procession of champions arrives courtesy of Joshua Mallett, Jarek Drabek, Jose David González Ramos, Quipster and Paulie Wallis.

The Cathayan Grand Cannon and its characterful crew also proved popular. Alison Kersley, Chris Lewis, Jessica Smart, Jason Stanyer, Rob Merker, and Vincenzo Celeste painted the whole kit, while Lukas Kuhn experimented with a venerable, weathered cannon that has its ornamental dragon head patched together using the kintsugi technique.*

Others opted to tackle a few miniatures, including Chloe Ratcliffe, Colin Ward, Jason Stanyer, Brennan Baker, Lukas Kuhn, and Stuart Mack.

We must make a special mention of Max Cooper, who managed to paint not only the whole Battalion box, but also the Shugengan Lord on Great Spirit Longma, Sky Lantern, and the Cathayan Sentinel.

Speaking of that towering stone construct, the Cathayan Sentinel caught the eye of a number of painters, who brought him to life in a variety of materials, with some lovely weathering too. Lloyd Davies, Nathan of the Great Book of Grudges, Spencer Stone, Vince Venturella, and Virginia Rosenberg each provided one, while Joshua Hill managed two.

You can pre-order everything and create your very own Grand Cathay army from tomorrow. Be sure to share them far and wide on social media when you do, so everyone can witness the glory of the immortal Dragon Emperor!
