Saturnine Dreadnought kit focus: The biggest beast in the new boxed set

There’s a lot of impressive stuff in the Saturnine boxed set, from classic MkII Space Marines to the towering Saturnine Terminators, but one miniature stands above them all. In fact, it can hardly be called a ‘miniature’ at all!

What’s in the kit?

A huge centrepiece model like the Saturnine Dreadnought is going to grab attention, so the kit includes a wealth of optional parts that range from the modest to the magnificent, with plenty of ways to display your allegiance to the Emperor or Horus.

In total, you get:

  • Four gorget pieces – two unadorned, plus one loyalist and one traitor

  • Two head options, with different face plates for the first, and an option for a studded forehead on the second

  • Three torso armour plates – one plain, one with Imperial-style lightning, and one with spiked studs

  • An optional sculpted halo to sit above the head

  • Optional lightning bolt trim for the shin armour

  • Optional venting panels on the heavy plasma bombard

  • A choice between two photonic incinerators or two concussive resonators on the torso

The heavy plasma bombard and disintegrator cannon are devastating siege guns whose weight would buckle lesser war machines. In much the same way as their counterpart Terminators loom large over their regular Space Marine brothers, the Saturnine Dreadnought secures firm ‘biggest brother’ status around even the Leviathan.

Such size translates directly to quality too, with the newcomer boasting more power and durability than any of its contemporaries.

Weapons of the future

So that’s what you get in the Saturnine box, but what about further down the line? What if you want to blow something to bits from really close range, or crush it into the dirt with lethal gravitational force?

The baseline Saturnine Dreadnought you find in the launch box is dubbed the Chiron configuration. Later this year you’ll get to add the powerful weapons of the Ophion configuration to your armoury, including an inversion beamer that gets stronger the closer you are to your target, and a graviton pulveriser that puts out a lot of raw damage.

The best part is, you won’t miss out on these new weapons just because you got your Dreadnought in the awesome Saturnine box set, as they’ll be available separately, much like the weapon sets for the Contemptor, Leviathan and Deredeo Dreadnoughts.

Due to the way the arms and weapon mounts are made, you can even carefully snap the guns in and out as you please rather than gluing them, or put magnets into pre-made slots for an even more secure fit.

You’ll be able to add this beast to your firing line fairly soon, and in the meantime, hang around with us here at Warhammer Community for an in-depth look at Dreadnought rules.
