When great invasions of heretics and xenos threaten the worlds of the Imperium, regular people strap on their flak armour, pick up a lasgun, and man the trenches against the unspeakable horrors of the 41st Millennium. We, uh, don’t envy them. Throughout the history of the Imperium, uncountable billions of human soldiers have sold their lives to defend the God-Emperor’s domain, formed into the mighty regiments of the Astra Militarum – known, for good reason, as the Hammer of the Emperor.
As part of our ongoing series scouring the archives for the best Warhammer art, we’re taking a tour of our most hallowed galleries that pay homage to the unflinching courage and determination of the Astra Militarum. Alone, they fall, but when massed against the foulest denizens of the galaxy with ten thousand of their comrades, they can do naught but cover themselves in glory.

With all of those heroic pieces showing the Astra Militarum at their best, it’s rather hard to feel anything other than swelling pride for Humanity’s finest. Did your favourite piece of art make the list? If not, make sure to tell us on Facebook and Instagram.
Next time, we go from one teeming mass of warriors to another, but this time they’re considerably louder, larger, and greener – the Orks. Will all of the art we find finally show enough dakka?*
* No. No it will not.
