Buddy up and purge Tyranids from Volkus with new co-operative Kill Team missions

Kill Team: Typhon is a box like no other, for within its hallowed cardboard walls it contains not just two complete kill teams and a diverse array of Tyranid-themed terrain, but also a horde of Hormagaunts waiting to pounce on unsuspecting operatives. These vicious little blighters are not part of the Ravener kill team, but instead act as an antagonistic obstacle for this expansion’s extensive set of co-operative and competitive missions.

Want to join up with a friend and purge the depths of Volkus together? This is how.

The Joint Ops Typhon Mission Pack gives players a branching, story-driven experience – played over the course of three games – during which their operatives seek out the core of the Tyranid infestation, progressing onto different missions depending on whether they win or lose.

Successful missions could send you off purging perilous spawning grounds, while failure may find your operatives fleeing from the tunnels as the swarm closes in. The unpredictable nature of your Tyranid adversaries makes each run through the Mission Pack a thrill, enhanced by special Event Cards that might suddenly spawn swarms of Rippers or fill the air with a choking miasma.

Better still, though the missions are designed to be run with the Raveners, Hormagaunts, and Ripper Swarm contained in the box, the Typhon Mission Pack also includes rules for bringing more of your Tyranid collection into the killzone – Termagants, Barbgaunts, and Von Ryan’s Leapers.

The Tyranid menace doesn’t only threaten your co-operative missions, however, and the peril of being devoured by a ravenous beastie will further complicate your regular head-to-head games. Here, the NPOs lie dormant until disturbed by a player, after which they’ll attack anything in sight – a terrifying situation that can just as easily be turned on your opponent by shooting one of the dormant monsters nearest to them.

These adversary rules can then be folded into any of your favourite Kill Team missions*, with six new killzone layouts provided to make the most of the new rules. In fact, with only a little bit of tweaking, you can substitute the Tyranids entirely for your chosen horde of ne’er-do-wells to represent operations within cultist strongholds or Ork-infested jungles.

Kill Team: Typhon goes up for pre-order this Saturday, so strap on your best Tyranid-stomping boots and meet us in the situation room for further briefings. By which we mean, come back on Saturday to buy it.

* They work best with three-objective missions, such as Preliminary Ops or the Assigned Ops card pack.
