Listen closely, commanders – this is top secret intel. Clandestine military operations are ever-shifting endeavours, with objectives fading and opponents changing even as operatives pick their way through the killzone.
Kill Team missions are about to get a big shake-up, as the Approved Ops Card Pack 2025 is on the way with brand new objectives to fight over and a helping hand for all those commanders* who seem to flub every initiative roll they make.
The four archetypes each get a new spread of three Tac Ops in this update, with some offering radically different ways to play compared to their previous objectives.
Recon kill teams, for instance, can now opt to Flank their opponents by splitting the killzone in two and scoring Victory Points for dominating each half – a much more defensive option that rewards smart movement of troops around the centre of the board. Seek and Destroy kill teams can load up on Dominate tokens by having their star operatives knock out enemy models, but they have to be careful as they can only be traded for Victory Points in the latter half of the game, forcing a more considered approach than the previous Champion Tac Op.
Three classic Crit Ops – Secure, Loot, and Transmission – are joined by six new ones. Malfunctioning objective markers are the bane of your operatives’ lives in Reboot, as one objective falls silent each turn and commanders can either fight over those that remain or spend time enacting the hallowed Rites of Deactivation and Reactivation.** In the enigmatically named Orb, a mysterious object shuts down whichever objective it hovers over, and devious operatives can ponder move it onto their opponent’s turf – turning the match into a deadly game of hot potato.***
Along with the new ways to score Victory Points, there’s a mechanic that manipulates initiative rolls, giving commanders the opportunity to cash in their bad luck to seize momentum when it really matters. The winner of the first initiative roll decides who takes the initiative before the battle, and who therefore gets to select drop zones. The other gets a card that lets them re-roll a future initiative roll. Then the player that loses each subsequent initiative roll gets a card that allows them to modify a future initiative roll. The more initiative rolls you lose, the greater the chance of winning one later.
These cards don’t need to be used right away and you can use them either to add to or subtract from your roll, so stockpiling a couple of cards can make that crucial final initiative roll much more reliable. The value of the modifier cards increases for each turning point that passes, so losing a late-game roll means you’ll bounce back all the harder.
On top of all this, three new layout leaflets add six new maps each for Killzone: Volkus, Killzone: Bheta-decima, and the upcoming Kill Team: Tomb World, as well as six returning maps for both Killzone: Gallowdark and general non-specific Kill Team boards. Combined with the new Crit Ops and Tac Ops, they’re sure to shake up your games of Kill Team for the next year, and give you many more exciting operations to come.
The Kill Team Approved Ops Card Pack 2025 will be coming out shortly before the hotly anticipated arrival of Kill Team: Tomb World. Stay tuned to Warhammer Community for more news soon.
