Nick adds new Ultramarines to his vast collection to get us excited for the sons of Guilliman

A selection of new Ultramarines will be available for pre-order tomorrow, including the legendary Marneus Calgar – now back in the Armour of Antilochus – Cato Sicarius, and new Victrix Honour Guard. Before we could even finish announcing the whole lot of them, Nick, our veteran Ultramarines player and honorary son of Macragge, had already sent off a dozen emails and messages asking if he could paint them.

As a driving force behind March for Macragge, we couldn’t rightly turn him down, so we made sure to petition the lords of Ultramar for a few kits, which he dutifully painted. Not only that, he brought in part of his First Company army for us to photograph.

Nick: Like many hobbyists out there, I love Terminators. That iconic silhouette, their history in Warhammer 40,000, and games like Space Hulk – they are just so cool. So when the new kits dropped in this edition of the game, and Codex: Space Marines presented me with the 1st Company Task Force Detachment, I wanted to paint loads.

I’ve painted three squads so far, each ten strong and led by a sergeant. Those Terminators with the red stripe on their helmets are squad leaders, the second in command of the unit. They are led by Captain Agemman, a Librarian, a Chaplain, and, of course, the splendid new Ancient!

But it didn’t stop there. I figured that, like any other Company, the First would have two Lieutenants, so I converted them from the Captain in Terminator Armour kit. I even made an Apothecary Biologis in Terminator Armour too. While these models don’t have official rules, they are the kind of fun conversions I like making, and amongst friends, it’s easy enough to come up with profiles and points for them.

Of course, now I have the glorious new Marneus Calgar to lead them all, and I couldn’t resist painting up Sicarius too – it’s just such a glorious model, and a character I have loved ever since I read the Black Library novel Knights of Macragge.

The Terminators were just the start of my 1st Company force, which I expanded on for the Warhammer TV office Crusade Campaign. My whole Ultramarines collection was featured on Warhammer TV’s Armies of Renown too, so go check it out there!

Cheers for that, Nick.

If you also want to make Guilliman proud, you can pre-order all the new Ultramarines miniatures tomorrow, alongside Battleforce: Crux Terminatus, a Combat Patrol featuring Chief Librarian Tigurius, and a set of Ultramarines dice. That’s a whole lot of blue.
