Pages from the Black Books – The Iron Hands

One of the Legions most cruelly riven by the Dropsite Massacre was the Iron Hands, who had ground their way through the hellish sands of Isstvan V only to have their Primarch slain and a huge number of their Space Marines dashed across the Urgall Depression. It is testament to their grit and die-hard determination that they continued to be a significant thorn in Horus’ side throughout the Heresy, and this week we pay respects to the X Legion, also known as the Iron Tenth, with an in-depth extract from 2013’s Book Two – Massacre.

Even before their Primarch was cut down by Traitor forces on Isstvan V, the Iron Hands were a dark and brooding Legion with little respect for the preening and bragging of their more ostentatious cousins. Their devout belief in the purity of the machine led them to regard many of their flesh-and-blood allies with cold contempt, while X Legion warriors frequently enhanced their combat prowess with advanced augmetics, esoteric weapons, and experimental wargear. This is something that would take over them after they witnessed their Primarch fall, confirming once and for all that Flesh Is Weak.
