White Dwarf 515 – Inner mysteries of the Adeptus Astartes

Riding hot on the heels of our Space Marine reveals at the Big Summer Preview, White Dwarf is donning its Chapter serf robes and getting cosy with the Adeptus Astartes in issue 515. You’ll be able to pre-order a copy this Saturday, so let's take a look at what’s coming in this issue.

The magazine opens with a deep lore dive with Andy from the Warhammer 40,000 studio, musing on what other citizens of the Imperium think about the Angels of Death. If you’ve ever wondered quite how few Imperial citizens have even seen a Space Marine in person,* and how individual Chapters can radically change their allies’ perception of Space Marines in general, give it a read.

Then one of the all-time most iconic Space Marine vehicles – the mighty Dreadnought – gets a whole section. Learn about the Dreadnoughts’ history, different patterns, and the hallowed heroes that pilot them.

A new set of fun and fast-paced rules places you in the shoes of Straban, Quartus, and friends from Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, in a game designed to evoke the co-operative Operations mode. Players take control of three characters fighting to complete mission objectives while hordes of Tyranids close in among the close confines of the Boarding Actions terrain.

A huge 20-page section all about custom Space Marine Chapters – with examples from the ‘Eavy Metal team and other members of the Warhammer Studio – is a gold mine for Warhammer hobbyists looking to add a unique spin to their personal armies.

This expansive guide is full of guidance for picking your Chapter’s name, symbol, and elements of their backstory, and includes a handy table for randomising anything you need a little help with. It’s all capped off with tons of photography showing incredible paint schemes and converted miniatures, bringing the Studio’s armies to life.

The Skaven are up to no good in the Mortal Realms with a profile of the Great Horned Rat himself, while miniatures designers from the Warhammer: The Horus Heresy team discuss the genesis of Saturnine technology.

You can pre-order your issue on Saturday, or sign up for a 12-month subscription and get special full-art cover issues delivered right to your door.

* And why that’s usually a bad thing.
