This season of Questing Nights on Warhammer+ has seen four brave adventurers battling their way through the foetid, labyrinthine tunnels beneath the Nurgle-corrupted Jade Abbey in Warhammer Quest: Darkwater. We’re catching up with them today, and we’ve also got a really cool competition going on that you’ll want to keep your peepers open for. Make sure you stick around for news on that below.

As our intrepid presenters ready themselves to take on Act III’s final boss – the dread daemon prince Gelgus Pust – we caught up with the show’s host, Simon, to learn more about their journey so far…*
Si: We’ve had an absolute blast so far this series, taking on everything that Darkwater could throw at us. What’s more, our heroes have emerged largely unscathed, though doubtless in need of a cleansing bath after wading through all that muck. Okay, so we may have had a few close calls – my character, Bren Tylis, was absolutely on her last legs in the fight against Act II’s boss, Belga the Cystwitch. In fact, a stiff breeze may have been enough to finish her at that point, which certainly contributed to me choosing the Trogghide Leathers in the encounter’s aftermath.

EPIC REWARD
TROGGHIDE LEATHERS
Each time you would Heal (X) this hero, where X is any value, Heal (X+1) this hero instead.
Troggoth leather is self-repairing and tough as stone – a great boon if one can bear the stench.
Not only would this reward help to keep her Health topped up, but should she ever succumb to her injuries and become vulnerable, another hero’s use of Aid would see her back on her feet and healed to 3 Health instead.
By channelling the spiritual guidance of her ancestor, Yondara, Bren Tylis has proven to be an exceptional all-rounder. Her choice of re-rolls has enabled her to race ahead of the party and weather a storm of incoming attacks, or lay about her with murderous efficiency as needed – the latter option greatly aided by having found the Rotbane Sword, as it makes her attacks exceptionally reliable.

YONDARA’S GUIDANCE
Bren’s fallen ancestor guides her movements, steels her blade and fortifies her spirit.
Once per battle round, in this hero’s turn, pick 1 of the following effects to apply until the start of this hero’s next turn:
You can re-roll this hero’s move rolls.
You can re-roll any dice in this hero’s attack rolls.
You can re-roll this hero’s save rolls.

UNCOMMON REWARD
ROTBANE SWORD
When this hero attacks, they can use this attack profile, but they must remove 1 dice after making the attack roll.
Range: 1
Dice: 3
Hit: 3+
Beth, who’s been using Drolf Ironhead, is our undisputed MVP of the campaign so far. A key part of this has relied on using Drolf’s Ranger’s Kit to help us overcome the various encounters with his unrivalled manoeuvrability. She’s benefited greatly from the Equipment Upgrade reward in the latter half of Act II, as the effectiveness of being able to traverse an additional blocked hex cannot be overstated.**

UPGRADED EQUIPMENT
RANGER’S KIT
DROLF IRONHEA
Pick 2 blocked hexes. Until the start of their next turn, this hero can move through those blocked hexes but cannot end their move in either hex.

RARE REWARD
EQUIPMENT UPGRADE
Pick a hero. That hero uses the upgraded side of their equipment card for the rest of the campaign.
Another trick up Beth’s sleeve has been the Lone Wolf reward, picked up in Act I, which can grant Drolf a handy boost of energy when roaming off on his own.

UNCOMMON REWARD
LONE WOLF
This hero can only use this ability if no heroes are visible to them. Gain
‘Truth is, I work best alone. Ain’t got much time for other folk.’
– Drolf Ironhead
Right after we defeated Belga the Cystwitch last episode, Josh also bagged himself an Equipment Upgrade for Inara Sion. Knowing how tactically astute he is, the subtle difference of being able to use the Blade of Flowing Waters at any time rather than just on his turn will doubtless give our party a significant (watery) edge.

UPGRADED EQUIPMENT
BLADE OF FLOWING WATERS
INARA SION
Use this at any time. Pick a visible waterspout token. Then, pick a hex that is within 3 hexes of this
hero or that waterspout token and that is visible to this hero.
Place that waterspout token in the hex you picked.
Ever since Josh had an early scare while battling to save the Viridian Stag, our adventuring party has been working hard to protect Inara Sion and mitigate her fragile 5+ Defence characteristic. If anything, we’ve overperformed in this area, with Josh rarely suffering any damage that wasn’t self-inflicted in order to make a free attack with his Furious reward!

UNCOMMON REWARD
FURIOUS
Inflict 1 damage on this hero. Then, this hero uses the Attack ability once at a cost of 0 energy.
Sheer rage can be a powerful boon in battle, dulling pain and transforming hate into strength.

FLARING TEMPER
Edmark’s temper is explosively violent, and the more fiercely he is attacked, the more furious his retribution is.
After this hero blocks any hits scored by an attack, if the attacker is next to them, roll a dice for each hit blocked. If any of the rolls are 5+, inflict 1 damage on the attacker.
At the other end of the Defence spectrum is the mighty Edmark Valoran, who can withstand all but the most determined attacks with contemptuous ease… well, at least, he should be able to, but John*** has displayed an incredible talent for failing his 3+ rolls. Ironically, on the apparently rare occasions that he has successfully blocked any incoming attacks, his dice rolls for inflicting damage with Edmark’s Flaring Temper have been remarkably consistent!
John also secured a handy reward after defeating Act II’s cackling boss – the Thornblade Greatsword. Though far less reliable than a regular attack, the combination of an additional dice and automatic critical hits has some truly outrageous damage potential, with the possibility of inflicting a whopping “six hits to the dome”, as John affectionately refers to it. When combined with John’s long-serving Talisman of Quickening reward, which offers Edmark anything up to 12 hexes of movement if he activates last, his threat range is quite something to behold.

RARE REWARD
THORNBLADE GREATSWORD
When this hero attacks, they can use this attack profile and all hits are increased to critical hits for those attacks.
Range: 1
Dice:3
Hit: 5+

UNCOMMON REWARD
TALISMAN OF QUICKENING
Cost:
This hero moves 2 hexes for each turn that has been taken this battle round.
So, with our shiny new rewards and trusted favourites in hand, we’re all set for taking on Act III, in which we’ll be facing none other than Gelgus Pust himself. I, for one, am looking forward to discovering just how powerful some of the vaunted Act III rewards are, because I suspect we’re going to need all the help we can get if we’re going to succeed. Be sure to join us for this week’s episode to find out!

Thanks, Simon! There’s still more to come from Warhammer TV this week, as Painting Desk are joined by superstar painter and Warhammer miniatures designer Maxime for a look at their collection – including a wonderful pair of Inquisitor Eisenhorn models. Maxime is well known for painting an incredible Genestealer Cults Primus exhibited at the Warhammer 40,000 Open Day in 2016, and that neatly(ish) segues us onto today’s episode of Deep Strike as the team delve into the Hammer and Bolter episode A New Life and chat about that twist at the end.

We’re also excited to announce that the Warhammer Relics festival – our celebration of all the hottest Warhammer merch coming out – is returning for another year on February 26th. There’s some really awesome stuff being revealed, and to celebrate we’re having a competition for a lucky Warhammer+ subscriber to win a pile of goodies.

* If you haven’t seen episodes 1 and 2 of this season of Questing Nights, consider this your official spoiler alert!
** Of course, as a duardin, Drolf loves some good old fashioned loot, and his Ranger’s Kit can make a mockery of grabbing treasure that would otherwise be exceptionally difficult – or even dangerous – to reach.
*** Our guest presenter, John, was actually one of the brains behind the design of Warhammer Quest: Darkwater, and his insight has unsurprisingly been a huge boon to the party.
