It’s the last week of the Warhammer TV winter season, and Throne is it a good one! We have a new animation, the biggest battle report we’ve ever filmed, a clash of wits, and a bunch of gits. Where do we even begin?
Adepta Sororitas: Penitence, episode 1 – Sacred Rose
The first episode of the new Warhammer 40,000 animation, Adepta Sororitas: Penitence, is now available to watch. In this new three-part series, a group of Adepta Sororitas must overcome a physical and spiritual ordeal (and loads of Orks) as they seek to deliver a sacred relic to its ordained resting place.
Check out the trailer:
The episode stars Sisters of the Order of the Sacred Rose. We’ve seen Sisters of Battle in animated action before (see Pariah Nexus and Hammer and Bolter) but this is the first opportunity we’ve had to spend any time with this alabaster-armour-clad sorority. So what marks these sisters out from the other orders?
The Order of the Sacred Rose is one of the six Orders Majoris of the Adepta Sororitas – the largest military formations of the Ecclesiarchy. The original four orders – the Order of Our Martyred Lady, The Ebon Chalice, the Valorous Heart, and the Argent Shroud – were founded in the wake of the Age of Apostasy in the 36th Millennium. The final two Orders Majoris, founded in the 38th Millennium, are the Order of the Bloody Rose and the Order of the Sacred Rose. The Order of the Sacred Rose is one of three Sisterhoods who mark their holy centre as the Convent Prioris on Terra, but like all the Orders Majoris, they have holdings and shrines across the entire galaxy.
'Scorn not the unwashed masses, for should their pious faith be pure, even the lowliest servant of the God-Emperor may rise to greatness.'
– Sister Superior Lyona Serena, Order of the Sacred Rose
Each of the Orders Majoris were founded to honour one of the original Matriarchs of the Adepta Sororitas – the sainted companions of Alicia Dominica. The Matriarch of the Order of the Sacred Rose is Saint Arabella, who records remember as the most level headed and serene of Alicia’s bodyguards. She saw her sacred role as liberator of the oppressed. The Sisters of the Order of the Sacred Rose follow in that vein, and strive to free the Emperor’s people from the yoke of heretic and alien oppression (and usher them back into the in-no-way-oppressive bosom of the Imperial Church).

In battle, the Sisters of the Order of the Sacred Rose do not scream war cries of bloodlust and vengeance, instead they intone prayers of fortitude and strength, looking to Saint Arabella and the Emperor to grant them the power to overcome their foe. Though less bombastic, they are no less pious than any other Sisters of Battle, their calm demeanor utterly at odds with the righteous violence they unleash upon their foes.
You can see the Sisters of the Order of the Sacred Rose in action right now in the first episode of the new animation Adepta Sororitas: Penitence, on Warhammer TV.

Winter season specials
And that’s not all that’s available this week. It’s the end of Warhammer TV’s winter season, which means there are also some special shows going live today.

On Black Library Book Club, Alex, Josh, and Ed discuss Andy Clark’s novel Bad Loon Rising, grots in the Mortal Realms, and how Zograt – the puniest git in his tribe – rose to power after being blessed by the Bad Moon. And Zograt isn’t the only one seeking glory. Over on Brainboyz, two teams of Warhammer boffins are going head-to-head over six rounds of questions in a bid to be named the brainiest of the bunch. Play along at home and see if you can outwit Warhammer TV’s finest.
And if that wasn’t enough, we have a bonus treat for you coming this Friday, with an episode of Open Play featuring the biggest game we’ve ever played on Warhammer TV – literally!

We’ve recruited our friends in the Titan Owners Club for a truly humungous game of Adeptus Titanicus in Warhammer 40,000 scale! This is a truly epic battle that you really cannot miss, featuring more than a dozen Titans on each side, a custom floor mat filled with awesome terrain, and a smoke machine that may or may not have set off the fire alarm a couple of times when we did the filming. Check back on Friday to watch the God-Machines march to war.
