If you’re already a Warhammer+ subscriber, you could be watching the first episode of the new Warhammer Age of Sigmar animation right now. Here’s what the rest of you are missing out on – check out this trailer.
Sigmar’s Toll looks gorgeous. Matching the animation style and quality of recent Warhammer 40,000 animations The Tithes and Pariah Nexus, this is the first time we’ve seen the Mortal Realms in this much detail, and it really is something to see.

Sigmar’s Toll takes place at the dawn of the current era of the Age of Sigmar, with one of the most significant events of recent Mortal Realms history – the Hour of Ruin. The Gnaw has just violently erupted into existence in the Realm of Fire and the Mortal Realms face the rat-based apocalypse of the Vermindoom.
It’s set in the besieged city of Embergard. This Sigmarite city has been an important settlement since it was founded by the Dawnbringer Crusaders, perched as it is atop a mound of valuable realmstone. Now it finds itself at the bleeding edge of the vast Skaven invasion, the last surviving bastion for miles around, holding out against increasingly bleak odds. It would likely have fallen already, were it not for the assistance of the Stormcast Eternals of the Hallowed Knights, led by Knight-Questor Leodus.

This story drops you right into the heart of the current narrative with very little prior knowledge needed.* The show also serves as a prequel for the latest season of Warhammer Underworlds, which is set in the catacombs beneath Embergard following the events of this series.
As well as Embergard itself, we also get a chance to see more of the tainted Aqshyian landscape around it, both the Skaven-infested east, and the forbidding mountain paths of the Adamantine Chain.
Of course, you can expect to see plenty of action, as the Hallowed Knights and the hordes of Skaven clash, but there are plenty of quieter moments exploring the tragic nature of the Stormcasts’ eventual fate, as well as the inter-clan politics of the verminous ratmen.
