Corsairs, Vampires, Battle Sisters and more star in new Black Library books

You can’t judge a book by its cover, as the saying goes. That’s true, but what if a book has a really awesome cover? And what if there were a bunch of new books, each with covers that go hard? And what if there was a synopsis for each book?

Maybe it’s time for a new saying.

Aeldari Corsairs prefer to shirk the responsibilities of their craftworld in order to ply the stars in search of meaning and glory – and no, it’s totally not a phase. For Baron Myrin Stormdawn of the Starsplinters, things are going from bad to worse as a running conflict with Uzgul da Magnificent and his Badskab Buccaneers escalates in an unexpected way. He’s forced into an alliance with Taenar Leotharan, an admiral exiled from their home – the Craftworld Ilmaren.

Taenar struggles to adjust to a life of piracy, and the Starsplinters are only as good as their last success and the whims of their capricious commander, Princess Tishria. Mike Brooks pits Aeldari against Orks and internal strife in Voidscarred.

From one haughty group of ancient beings bearing a cursed legacy that winnows away at their very being to another: the vampires of the Soulblight Gravelords. Nyssa Volari was abandoned in Aqshy when the Crimson Keep dematerialised without warning. Per Nagash’s rules, Nyssa should be dead – but she has somehow forged a kingdom.

Her power is now threatened as an army of beasts in search of a totem of immense necromantic power rampages across the Broken Plains, corrupting her empire and agitating all her usual supplicants and enemies. Only through confronting her past and seeking new power can she hope to triumph, in Queen of the Rose Throne by Gary Kloster.

With fiery tempers, and even fierier flamers, the Adepta Sororitas are fervent exemplars of the Imperial Creed, purging their foes with faith, fury, and – we can’t stress this enough – lots of fire. Upcoming anthology Paragon of Faith and Other Stories collects two novellas and five short stories about the Battle Sisters.

In Paragon of Faith by Amanda Bridgeman, Sister Aenor and her unit mount a desperate defence on a pilgrimage world threatened by menace below the surface. But flickers of self doubt – and overwhelming cultist hordes – complicate matters somewhat. In Saint’s Judgement by Ness Brown, Sister Hospitaller Docia is fighting a less palpable threat, as a deadly plague that twists mind, body, and soul turns her infirmary into a battlefield where only faith can triumph against the infected hordes. The anthology also contains the short stories Infernal Motives by Jude Reid, Our Lady of the Voyage by Kate Flack, Joy of the Martyr by Ness Brown, Redemption Through Blood by John Sollitto and The Fires of Our Faith by Nicholas Werner.

But wait, what’s this? There’s a fourth book on the way, and – would you believe it – this one also has a fantastic cover. This is the editorial equivalent of injury time, folks.

The Realm of Life just cannot catch a break. Abraxia famously took a torch to the glittering city of Phoenicium, raising a dark edifice named Blackpyre from its ashes. Conquering a city is one thing – plenty of furious and long forgotten Chaos Warlords have managed that on their Path to Glory – but ensuring the continued existence of a dark citadel through conspiracies and turmoil is the real challenge.

As Spear of the Everchosen, wielder of accursed Gorbolga, tamer of Thanatorg, leader of the Swords of Chaos, and Champion of Archaon, she burns with ambition, and sees the potential to make a real mark on Ghyran. You can look forward to finding out how she balances statecraft and skewering people in Abraxia: Spear of the Everchosen, by Chris Thursten.

All four books will be released later in the year, so stick a bookmark in Warhammer Community and check back for more updates.
