Codexes, Kings, Cawdors and More

It’s only been a month since Warhammer Fest, and we’re already bringing you another exciting set of reveals and previews – pretty cool, right? From the next codexes for Warhammer 40,000 to a look at a terrifying new “hero” for Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Necromunda’s next gang, news on Warhammer Underworlds and more, read on to find out what you’ve got to look forward to…

The Far Future…

First and foremost, isn’t it about time we reveal another set of codexes? With Codex: Imperial Knights available to pre-order this weekend, it’s high time we revealed just what’s coming next…

These codexes are two of the most requested, but rest assured, the wait will be worth it – both the Orks and Space Wolves codexes will be absolutely packed with new content for your games. If you’ve been looking on enviously as other factions get their time in the sun, your patience will soon be rewarded.

The keen-eyedamong you will note that this only leaves a single xenos faction still lurking in the shadows… Well, good news – there’s something crawling down the pipe for the forces of the Genestealer Cults too – and he has three arms, three eyes, one and a half heads… and a stop sign.

And this handsome chap might not be alone – look out for more xenos news in the future…

Upon a Throne of Lies…

What about Warhammer Age of Sigmar?

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been previewing the new edition of the game in extensive detail, and you’d be forgiven for thinking there’d be nothing left to reveal, right? Not so!

There’s a whole spirit host of new models on the way. The Nighthaunt army is led by three named characters – here’s a first look at one:

Kurdoss Valentian, the Craven King, is one of the named champions who leads Nagash’s
Nighthaunt legions. Serving at the side of his master, the Mortarch of Grief, this arch-plotter and schemer is an incredibly astute – if embittered and cruel – commander. He’s also not afraid to smash some Stormcast skulls with that mace…

Heroes of Shadespire

From the Mortal Realms to the mirrored city. There’s all sorts of cool stuff in the works for Warhammer Underworlds, and we’ve just taken a peek and what’s coming next – the Leader Cards pack. This is Warhammer Underworlds’ first cards-only expansion, packed with new ploys, upgrades and objectives for every warband, designed around making the most of the leader of each warband. Here’s a sneak peek at some cards from the set…

Maximum Faith – Minimum Hygiene

And also, Necromunda. At the Warhammer Fest preview, we got a look at some art for the upcoming Cawdor gang for Necromunda – a particularly iconic favourite among fans of the game.

For those of you new to Necromunda, the Cawdor are one of the underhive’s most unusual houses. Scrap-pickers, scavengers and junk hoarders, the Cawdor have scraped together a mighty under-empire from the leavings of the city. Bound together by an unshakeable, fanatical faith in the Emperor and armed with all manner of home-made weapons and armour, they are hell-bent on bringing their fervent worship to every dark corner of the underhive – and woe betide those who stand in their way.

The new Cawdor models were a fantastic opportunity for the Specialist Games team to take a closer look at some of the Imperium’s lowliest subjects. Each Cawdor model is hugely characterful, packed with exquisite grimdark gothic detail, from their ancient-looking vestments to clusters of candles and their huge, rusted polearms.

Best of all? The Cawdor will be available in multipart plastic kits, allowing you to build your gang however you like. Like the other plastic gang sets, the Cawdor gang is jam-packed with customisation options, from esoteric wargear like heavy crossbows to incendiary charges and a variety of hoods, heads and accessories. We’d be very surprised if
Forge World didn’t have some upgrade sets up their sleeves, too…

An Unexpected Boxed Set

And that’s not all. Over the last few years, gaming in Middle-earth has seen something of a renaissance. With Forge World having vastly expanded the world of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey™ Strategy Battle Game with a range of models, gaming events across the world consistently drawing considerable crowds and Battle Companies allowing players to fight epic campaigns with only a handful of models, the Middle-earth Team have decided it’s finally time to release something big – and the Battle of Pelennor Fields is just the start. Watch this space for further announcements…

Phew! And we’re not even halfway through 2018 yet. Let us know what you’re most excited about on the Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar Facebook pages, and stay tuned – there are still more announcements and reveals on their way later in the year…
