Top 5 Lists from Blood & Glory

header

For those of you who tuned in to our Twitch channel at the weekend (all of you …right?) you’ll know that Blood & Glory was an action-packed Warhammer Age of Sigmar tournament held in Derby, UK. Dice were rolled, beer was drunk, legends were made. It was a great weekend with some stunning armies and phenomenal generalship.

Below, you’ll find the top 5 army lists, and we’ll bring you more on these lists direct from the players themselves later this week and next week, starting with winner, Ben Johnson.

ben-johnson-header

Ben’s army comprises a single Warscroll Battalion – the ‘Warrior Brotherhood’. What’s great about this particular battalion is that it allows every unit to deploy using Lightening Strikes. This means you don’t need to set them up on the board and can instead deploy your army as near as 3″ to the enemy (it’s normally further away than this, but clever placement of the two Knight-Azyros models reduce this)! Paladins are super hitty and can smash most units in a single turn, but what makes them even more deadly is placing them on the board next to a Knight-Azyros and a Liberator squad. As part of the Warrior Brotherhood, this means they’ll get +1 Bravery and the ability to re-roll 1’s to wound.

Ben’s army works, then, by having two of these rock-hard attack wings – Knight-Azyros, Paladins and Liberators, allowing him to either attack two key places on the board at once or encircle and destroy a particular powerful enemy unit. So, if you’re planning on using the Warrior Brotherhood, make sure your Stormcast Eternals army has a Knight-Azyros in it.

terry-pike-header

Terry’s army is a mix of several factions within the Chaos Grand Alliance. The Plaguebearers and Great Unclean One are a durable, resilient force and are great for holding objectives and slowing up the enemy. Complementing Terry’s ability to sit back on objectives is the long-range power of the Warp Lighting Cannons, which can be used to snipe Heroes and Monsters that might give his other units problems.

Now, for the counter-attack unit: the Stormfiends, which are the real key to this list. Using Sayl’s ability, you can fly the Stormfiends forward where they can shoot (and their shooting is off-the-charts awesome) and then charge, and (!) then take another turn thanks to Kairos’ ability to ensure (or near as possible) that you get the double turn. It’s utterly devastating. Sayl, is a great addition to any force, with a whole bag of tricks, and you should probably have him in your army.

maxime-julian-header

Maxime’s army blends masses of cheap Grots with the hitting power of the largest beasts the Beastclaw Raiders have to offer. This is a great list. Dozens of people took a variation of it to Blood & Glory, and it’s even the list that Andy runs here in the office. While Grots are useful for getting in your opponent’s way – and to hold objectives – they come into their own with the addition of Fanatics.

Set these up right, and you can stop your opponent from charging you, thus allowing the Thundertusks more time to shoot them to death with their blast of frost-wreathed ice special attack. Thundertusks are truly horrendous, almost guaranteed to kill 6 enemy infantry models a turn, or kill and cripple larger Monsters and Heroes. With Huskard’s riding them, they can also heal each other… throw in a Frostlord on Stonehorn (one of the most devastating close combat heroes, when charging) and this army has few weaknesses. Thundertusks: our pick of the large monsters.

craig-namvar-header

Craig runs a pure Sylvaneth force, taking full advantage of the Allegiance abilities unlocked for him in the form of spells, artefacts and free Wyldewoods! Alarielle is obviously pretty powerful (with being goddess and all), able to hold her own in combat or in a magical duel with any of the big-hitters of the Realms, but it’s her durability that makes her great in this list. Naturally healing D3 wounds a turn – and even more with spells if she wants too – and then being able to pass wounds along to the Spirit of Durthu, only the most dedicated assault upon her is likely to work. Since she’s fast, and able to manipulate terrain, that is no easy feat.

Added to this, the Kurnoth Hunters are some of the best shooters in the game – able to inflict crippling damage on an enemy army from the safety of their own deployment zone. Meanwhile, Drycha is the perfect hero to lead the charge to claim enemy-held territory. This army can take hits and dish them out. A solid list.

LEADERS
Alarielle the Everqueen (620)

Drycha Hamadreth (280)

Spirit of Durthu (400)
– General
– Artefact: Briarsheath
– Command Trait: Gift of Ghyran

Finally, Darran’s army is a variation on the one Maxime took. Again, the Frostlord on Stonehorn paired with the Huskard on Thundertusk makes for an awesome combination. Since this list has fewer Monsters, it relies more on its Grots to do the fighting, with the big guys providing the backup when needed.

Gitmob Grot Shaman (80)

Frostlord on Stonehorn (460)
